Overview

Based in Midwest Vision Partners' Chicago headquarters, the Accounting Manager leads the finance and accounting team and reports to the VP of Accounting (Controller). The role oversees the accounting department at HQ and collaborates with regional teams to drive consistency in accounting policies, consolidation, and reporting. The role also partners with FP&A to build systems for accurate and timely financial data to support ongoing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting department operations to ensure GAAP compliance and strong internal controls, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, inventory control, payroll, fixed assets, tax, and general accounting.
  • Lead a structured and timely month-end close process with a goal to close books on a defined schedule.
  • Review all journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the general ledger and timely release of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Perform financial analysis including budget comparisons and variance analyses; support special analyses and monthly management reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance financial and accounting processes.
  • Lead data validation and reporting efforts in ERP (D365), Power BI, and Adaptive in partnership with FP&A.
  • Set goals, measure progress, and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and resource use.

Year-end Audit

  • Drive the preparation of accounting memos and process narratives to ensure clarity and internal control compliance.
  • Oversee audit schedules and provide timely responses to audit requests; coordinate with external auditors to achieve an unqualified opinion and timely release of financial statements.
  • Coordinate data gathering with relevant departments in response to audit requests.

People & Leadership

  • Develop and manage a high-performing accounting team; provide training, motivation, performance evaluations, and career development.
  • Foster a positive culture of excellence and accountability; build team cohesion through meetings and one-on-one check-ins.

Knowledge, Education & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Minimum five years of accounting experience (healthcare or similar industry strongly preferred)
  • Minimum four years of supervisory experience
  • Experience with ERP systems (Microsoft ERP or similar strongly preferred), Workday, Adaptive
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to perform accounting analyses independently and apply judgment
  • Experience writing accounting memos, policy papers, and/or financial reports

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $145,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The base pay depends on factors including experience, qualifications, job-related knowledge and skills.
