Overview

Associa is looking for an Accounting Manager to join our Soniat Realty branch in New Orleans, LA. The Accounting Manager is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all accounting functions for community associations, rental properties, and related financial operations for the Soniat Realty Branch in New Orleans. Operating in a fast-paced, centralized accounting services environment, the Director ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financial processes while supervising a team of accounting professionals. The role involves managing general ledger accounting, payroll, accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), financial reporting, and cross-departmental support. The Director will foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment aligned with the organization’s commitment to maintaining a "Best Places to Work" culture, reporting directly to the Branch President with a dotted line to Associa/RHOME Vice President of Accounting and/or Corporate Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and train a team of client accounting staff, ensuring high performance, professional development, and accountability.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and implement training to enhance team capabilities.
  • Oversee all general ledger (GL) accounting processes for community associations and rental properties, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Manage and review the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including owner statements, management fee reports, and budget-to-actual analyses.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll submissions every other week, including for operations, accounting, and property managers.
  • Review and approve A/P processes, including uninsured vendor billing submissions to Associa and updates to vendor COI (Certificates of Insurance).
  • Manage billing processes, including monthly A/R delinquent condo owner statements, 10-day demand letters, and collection processes for delinquent accounts.
  • Prepare and distribute customized financial reports to support other departments, including budget-to-actual reports, cash flow projections, management fee sweeps, and ad-hoc analyses.
  • Collaborate with A/R, A/P, Data, Tax, and Investment teams to resolve issues and streamline processes.
  • Oversee daily ACH processing, bank transfers, and positive pay uploads/approvals, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage bank reconciliations (due by end of month), stop payments, voided checks, and resolution of outstanding check issues.
  • Oversee annual tax return preparation and filing, including review and processing of 1099s for owners and vendors (in collaboration with Associa/RHOME team for IRS submission).
  • Leverage software platforms (e.g., Complete Control for Communities [C3], RentManager, Appfolio, PowerBi, D365) to streamline tasks like payment posting, management fee invoicing, and financial reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) and Microsoft Office.
  • Experienced in general ledger accounting.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Experienced in budget implementation.
  • Understanding of AP transaction process.
  • Understanding of AR transaction process.
  • Willingness to grow and take on new projects as needed.
  • Partner with multiple stakeholders, for example community managers, vendors, peers, clients.
  • Must be able to prioritize, manage time, and meet deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to interpret verbal and/or written instructions at a proficient level.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally on phone, email, and in-person.
  • Must be able to operate general office equipment (copier, fax, phone systems, etc.).

Compensation

$80,000 - $95,000 depending on experience

Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
