Overview
Unit Secretary, Full Time at University of Miami. The Unit Secretary provides support to an assigned unit by maintaining and updating patients’ records and performing administrative activities in compliance with all regulations.
Core Responsibilities
- Creates a calm, businesslike atmosphere that promotes productivity.
- Supports the organization's service excellence philosophy.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and functional work area in the Nursing Station.
- Greets customers entering the unit, answers inquiries, and directs them to the appropriate person or area.
- Initiates positive communication with patients, family members, nurses, and physicians in a courteous manner.
- Greets visitors and callers using a calm and friendly approach.
- Answers the telephone promptly, takes messages, answers routine questions, and transfers calls to appropriate areas.
- Maintains the patient’s chart in appropriate order.
- Initiates and assembles admission charts within 15 minutes of patients’ arrival to the unit.
- Prepares patient Welcome Packets and Folders for each patient.
- Completes Clean Room Checklist for every room prior to patient arrival.
- Ensures pertinent information and forms are sent to receiving units when patients are transferred.
- Records and delivers messages; maintains appropriate logs.
- Ensures resources, equipment, and supplies are available.
- Utilizes universal precautions and environmental safety guidelines.
- Complies with infection control, OSHA, AHCA regulations, and risk management.
- Uses time constructively and in an organized manner to accomplish responsibilities.
- Follows facility, departmental, and personnel policies and procedures; complies with the employee Code of Ethics and Standards of Behavior.
- Attends mandatory educational programs and annual in-services.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
