Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information while prioritizing and organizing work assignments based on changing needs and situations in the department
  • Greet patients and families. Assist them in filling out necessary forms and paperwork
  • Complete admission and discharge paperwork and file processing
  • Develop a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff and respond to questions/requests from healthcare providers
  • Organize and file medical information appropriately
  • Answer phones and call bells and communicate clearly when receiving information from other units, physicians, and/or guests
  • Safeguard sensitive medical information and practice strict procedures in handling confidentiality of data pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors
  • Serve as a resource within the department in terms of helping to troubleshoot computer and systems usage issues
  • Maintain and stock all designated clerical related supplies and equipment in the department
  • Complete other/varied tasks as necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the department

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs
  • Proficiency with medical vocabulary and general understanding of hospital policy & procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite platforms

Education, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred

  • Completion of a Secretarial course and/or a Medical terminology course
  • Previous experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary in a hospital setting

Compensation

  • Minimum rate of $18.36 Hourly
