Position

Position: Banquet Captain

Reports To: Catering Service Manager, Banquet Manager

Responsibilities

  • Supervise banquet staff in the completion of assigned functions and set-up; oversee service and break-down to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Ensure guest needs are anticipated and guests feel welcome, comfortable, and well cared for.
  • Check server’s and house personnel BEOs to ensure information is accurate.
  • Verify room set-up adheres to BEO directions and ensure public areas are neat and clean.
  • Communicate with group representatives and explain how to contact staff during the function.
  • Ensure all Food & Beverage items are presented and served correctly per property standards and any special instructions on the Banquet Event Order (BEO).
  • Maintain constant communication between Culinary Department Representative and Banquet Team; alert team to schedule changes or issues during service.
  • Compile and present end-of-event check from the BEO; ensure correct charges and post to the master account; obtain client signature.
  • Complete relevant paperwork (Captain’s Consumption Sheets, Captain’s Report) and distribute copies as required.
  • Manage equipment return and ensure the room is left clean; return unconsumed liquor and wines to the Banquet Beverage Service Bar.
  • Compile the station register and assign duties to banquet staff and captains for the event.
  • Ensure staff sign a banquet sign-in sheet prior to leaving the event.
  • Prepare the area for the function and recap all banquet checks at end of day for Night Audit.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisors/Managers.

Qualifications

Education: High school education or equivalent experience.

Skills and Abilities: Able to read, speak, and understand English; able to lift/push/carry 20–40 lbs; stand for long periods; effectively communicate with management, staff, and guests.
