Overview

Temp Parttime Faculty: Native American Studies – Posting Number req32464. Employment Type: Faculty; Adjunct position at UNM Los Alamos, with online and/or face-to-face Native American Studies courses at the 1000 or 2000 level. This is a continuous recruitment beginning in the Summer 2025 semester. Positions are contingent on student enrollment levels, current course offerings, and can be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for drops or adds. Applicants hired from this requisition will be considered for the next requisition.

Anticipated openings include the following subject: Native American Studies. UNM-Los Alamos is a two-year branch campus located ~90 miles northwest of Albuquerque. It emphasizes teaching excellence and offers transfer, vocational, and technical courses to residents of Los Alamos County and northern New Mexico.

Responsibilities

UNM-Los Alamos seeks qualified temporary part-time faculty to teach lower division classes in Native American Studies. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of their class, including meeting with the class at assigned times, content delivery, assignment development, grading, reporting grades, and assessing student learning as outlined by the Program Coordinator. Classes may be offered online or in person depending on circumstances. Note: Instructions and expectations are as described in the UNM-Los Alamos Faculty Handbook.

Wages

Adjunct Faculty at the UNM Los Alamos campus are currently compensated at the rate of $1,135.26 per credit hour.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications to teach or develop Native American Studies courses include one of the following, per Higher Learning Commission accreditation requirements:

  1. Master’s Degree in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying OR
  2. A master’s degree or higher in Sociology or Anthropology with successful completion of at least 9 graduate credit hours in the accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution
  2. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
  3. Online teaching experience
  4. Terminal degree in the discipline or subfield (Ph.D., MFA, etc.)
  5. Residence in New Mexico
