Alamance Community College is seeking a qualified and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Translator to provide interpreting services for faculty meetings and other academic or administrative events on an as-needed basis. The ASL Translator will facilitate effective communication between hearing and Deaf or Hard of Hearing participants, ensuring accessibility and inclusion.

- Provide real-time ASL interpretation during faculty meetings, workshops, and other designated events.
- Interpret spoken English into ASL and ASL into spoken English accurately and effectively.
- Ensure confidentiality and professionalism while interpreting sensitive or confidential information.
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing agendas, materials, and relevant terminology as needed.
- Collaborate with event organizers to confirm logistics and ensure effective communication access.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ASL interpretation practices and relevant terminology.
- Proficiency in ASL and spoken English with excellent comprehension and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret complex and technical language accurately.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate meetings and events as needed.
- Must adhere to professional ethics and guidelines, including confidentiality under ADA and other relevant regulations.
- Must hold a current certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in interpreting, linguistics, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional interpreting experience, preferably in an educational or academic setting.
