Overview
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Virginia is still accepting applications for two Hobby postdoctoral research associates. Please apply no later than June 10, 2015.
This is a new program at U.Va. These postdoctoral positions are not attached to a specific research grant and will have considerable autonomy, while still having close mentoring from faculty members.
Responsibilities
- Successful applicants will become part of an exciting cross-disciplinary research group spanning traditional statistical and computer science research modes.
- Postdoctoral research associates will benefit from close relationships with faculty in U.Va.’s Data Science Institute, as well as the opportunity to expand their professional networks and travel to conferences and workshops.
- In order to give the postdoctoral associates experience that helps them prepare for faculty careers, the postdocs will be expected to teach one course per semester in an area related to data and computational sciences, and help advise an interdisciplinary group of graduate students.

Qualifications
- Applicants must present evidence of outstanding accomplishments and promise in research, as well as evidence of ability and commitment to collaborative research.
- Priority will be given to applicants with strengths in one of the following areas of research (broadly defined): Machine Learning, Data/Network/Graph Mining, Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, or Analysis of High-Dimensional Massive Data.
