To serve as a professional staff employee of the Indiana State Police whose primary responsibility is to install, maintain, inspect, and remove mobile communications systems, emergency warning systems, and Indiana State Police automobile graphics (decals) utilized in/on police vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Complete assigned repair work as required.
  • Notify appropriate personnel of any visible major problems.
  • Keep work orders up to date.
  • Order parts and maintain garage stock room.
  • Keep the area of assignment clean and orderly.
  • Assist in unloading the supply truck and loading old tires, empty oil drums, etc.
  • Periodically complete training for new procedures and skills needed to maintain state-owned commissions.
  • Perform repairs or preventive maintenance work on the commissions: brakes, tires, exhaust, electrical gaskets, hoses, shock absorbers, transmission, rear ends, clutches, tune-ups, valves, air conditioning, heater work, lights, starters, bushings, ball joints, tie rods, idler arms and related parts, and change oil.
  • Perform repairs or preventive maintenance work on 3-prong accessories: antennas, camera systems, deck lights, flashlight systems, fuses, light bars, mirror lights, motorcycle and trailer wiring, computer docking station, and radio equipment.
  • Maintain various logs.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and find problems in the commissions.
  • Test drive commissions to ensure they are in working order.
  • Perform building custodian duties as required by the Division or District Commander.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Must be a high school graduate or possess equivalent GED.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be a graduate of an automotive trade school or have at least two (2) years of professional experience in automotive maintenance and repair.
  • Must have the ability to distinguish and determine colors and sounds.
  • Must have the ability to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation. Applicants are asked to submit a complete work history. All applicants are required to submit copies of high school transcript or GED certificate, any college transcripts, technical certificates and a military DD214 (if applicable).
