Overview
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett is excited to announce the opening of our new San Francisco office in early 2026, increasing our Bay Area presence to further improve the cutting-edge legal services we provide to our clients and communities. The Office Assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of duties, including Reception, general support to other departments/groups and Secretarial backup in the San Francisco office. The duties of the Office Assistant may change as the needs of the office and the Firm change. This role will be expected to work in-office Monday through Fridays, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily Reception coverage
- Reserve conference rooms and visitor offices using the Firm’s Conference Room Reservation software.
- Maintain up-to-date floor plan and office directory
- Welcome clients and visitors with exceptional service, assess the purpose of visit, and escort them to their designated conference rooms or other meeting areas.
- Work with building management and external vendors to process service requests for maintenance/repair (lights, temperature, overtime HVAC, noise, cleaning projects, porter services, etc.)
- Assist Bay Area Secretaries with printing, expense reports and other duties as needed
- Provide occasional secretarial support for visiting lawyers
- Provide back-up support to mailroom
- Assist with general office and facilities projects and tasks, as needed
- Other projects and duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor or Director of Administration
Education
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required
Skills and Experience
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in a professional environment required; experience in a large law firm is a plus
- Client-focused with the ability to provide customer service in a professional manner
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to effectively and accurately present information verbally and in writing
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to type 50+ wpm
- Familiarity with standard office equipment, e.g. printers, photocopiers and scanners
- Ability to work independently or on a team, with a positive attitude and flexibility to work with multiple departments and handle a wide variety of tasks
- Professional attire required as this position is frequently client-facing
Physical Demands (required To Perform Essential Job Functions)
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

- Bending/Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching: Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine, or by bending legs at knees
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
Salary Information
CA Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $55,000 to $70,000 at the time of posting.
The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is non-exempt meaning it is overtime pay eligible.
