Position Summary
The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating power industrial trucks for moving, locating, relocating, stacking, and counting merchandise. The operator ensures safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and may perform Order Filler and Checker duties in addition to their own. Responsible for accurate storing, shipping, and receiving of product to meet safety, security, and productivity standards.
As part of the DSV team, associates are expected to meet company objectives in performance, safety, and quality, and to comply with corporate and site-specific policies. Any combination of duties may be required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Receiving / Put-Away
- Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations. Input data accurately into WMS.
- Efficiently stack and store product in appropriate area.
- Maintain an organized work area.
Order Picking
- Pull and prepare for shipment, ensuring the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped.
- Perform picking duties efficiently to meet customer service standards.
- Prepare freight for operations accurately and in a timely manner as required.
Quality
- Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.
- Report quality variances.
Delivery
- Move product from staging/storage to production lines and/or staging docks efficiently.
- Ensure proper documentation accompanies freight.
Inventory
- Keep appropriate records and reports to guarantee tight inventory control and security.
- Assist in physical inventories and ensure proper stock rotation.
Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance
- Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area and assist in warehouse security.
Comply with all Standard Operating Procedures and site-specific policies.
Equipment & Maintenance
- Load, unload, move, stack, and stage product using a forklift, clamp truck, drum attachment, or other power equipment.
- Maintain facility equipment and materials in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
- Inspect and perform minor maintenance on forklifts or other equipment daily.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently following prescribed methods.
- Maintain an active forklift certification.
Other Duties (Site Specific)
- Change fuel tanks on forklifts as needed; participate in physical inventories; perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing, and repacking.
- Repair pallets, trailers, and truck bays as requested.
- Help maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Perform other duties as required; overtime may be required (mandatory or voluntary).

Minimum Required Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- 6 months of experience in a logistics/distribution environment.
- Ability to operate material handling equipment (MHE).
- Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures during different seasons.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Professional Designations
- Forklift training program completion.
Skills, Knowledge And Abilities
Computer Skills
- Basic computer skills; RF scanners; WMS functions.
Language Skills
- English (reading, writing, verbal).
Mathematical Skills
- Basic to intermediate ability to verify quantities, count inventory, and perform related duties.
Other
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy; ability to complete tasks timely.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and adapt to change in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years in warehouse/logistics/distribution environment.
- 1-2 years forklift experience.
- Current or prior MHE certification.
Physical Demands
Occasionally: Handling/Fingering, Sitting; Frequently: Bending; Constantly: Walking and Standing; Ability to lift/carry 21-50 pounds; reach above shoulder, reach outward, squat or kneel.
Work Environment
The job typically has a low to moderate noise level. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles is rare.
