What You’ll Do

As Assistant Production Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in the operation and supervision of the auditorium, with responsibilities in set construction, lighting and sound system operation, equipment maintenance, and preventive safety operations.

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Serve as the primary contact in the absence of the Production Coordinator and answer technical questions about running and scheduling events. Evaluate technical riders and setup requests.
  • Serve as the primary shop and crew manager, supervising all phases of set and scenery construction (including basic painting, surface prep, base coating, and some faux finishing). Supervise all phases of lighting (including load-in and basic lighting console programming) and provide basic electrical knowledge. Supervise basic audiovisual practices (including mixing consoles, video projectors, microphones, and cabling) and use computer tools for audio/video tasks. Supervise technical rehearsals, run of production, and stage clearance. Create and read construction drawings using computer software.
  • Maintain shop tools, inventory, and housekeeping. Maintain auditorium equipment including sound, lights, audiovisual, and computers.
  • Serve as the designer for sound, lights, and props as needed.
  • Work with outside events managers, crews, and other college personnel in a professional manner; operate TSC vehicles as needed (e.g., 1-ton dump truck with manual transmission) to transport productions equipment; perform other duties as needed.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a candidate who brings technical expertise and a passion for education and student success. Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Two (2) years of experience in technical theater productions and/or scene shop supervision. Professional or non-professional related work experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. College coursework beyond the associate’s degree in a related field may substitute at a rate of thirty (30) semester hours or forty-five (45) quarter hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Required job duties are normally inside and require essential physical abilities such as lifting, carrying, pushing more than 50 pounds; walking/standing; bending; stooping; good vision and hearing; reaching above shoulders; working with chemicals; etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform an essential function.
  • Leadership, Communication, and Organization skills.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Lighting Design Experience
  • Sound Design Experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or a related field
