Job Title: Manufacturing Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Operations Manager
Summary
Directs, administers, and coordinates all activities of the plant operations to achieve safety, quality, cost and delivery objectives. Manages the plant staff, including department managers responsible for Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Materials, Maintenance, and the plant Lean Manufacturing Engineer.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Meet manufacturing operation objectives, including key metrics related to safety, quality, cost, delivery, and financial performance.
- Ensure the plant provides a safe working environment through safe work practices, employee awareness, proper 5S and housekeeping, layered safety audits, and closure of safety-related issues; maintain an effective Emergency Plan.
- Cooperate with the GM on projects and plan plant resources including personnel/staffing, capital equipment, facilities, and new program requirements.
- Cooperate with the GM for capacity planning activities, including assessment and update of plant sales forecast and capacity tools for molding, painting, and assembly.
- Ensure plant operations adhere to Summit Lean Manufacturing System (SLMS) practices, including root cause problem solving (PPS), Kaizen, standardized work, continuous flow, pull systems, and Jidoka.
- Ensure successful new product launches by engaging in the product development process and preparing for launches following KBPD and customer requirements; coordinate with corporate engineering, sales, and materials throughout development and launch cycles.
- Promote root cause problem solving using PPS; lead and provide direction to plant staff managers; conduct daily staff meetings; assign responsibility for issues; require departmental action plans; ensure Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology is utilized.
- Assist the GM to ensure plant compliance with SPI systems and procedures supporting IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Promote compliance with corporate standardization initiatives (SLMS, Molding, Painting, Quality Systems, Maintenance Systems, Materials Systems, etc.).
- Assist in Talent Development to train and develop high-potential employees for growth within SPI; represent corporate management in matters of philosophy, quality ethics, and personnel policies as needed.
- Manage plant manufacturing/support personnel activities including hiring, promotion, demotion, transfers, and disciplinary actions; maintain positive customer relationships and ensure appropriate SPI-to-customer contact relationships.
- Provide resources to protect and maintain the facility; ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and reporting requirements; foster a positive working environment built on honesty, fairness, integrity, and respect.
- Maintain plant floor focus and “go and see,” engaging with all shifts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience at a technical or management level with knowledge of manufacturing processes, budgeting and costing, quality control procedures, and human resource management techniques. 4-year degree or 7 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment.
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to gather and synthesize information.
- Wonderlic Select Assessment: minimum score of 50 (traditional cognitive score 28).
Travel Requirements
This position typically requires less than 5% travel.
