Job Title: Mold Technician 1
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Reports To: Supervisor, Manufacturing (Molding)
Summary
This hands-on technical role involves machine setups, start-ups, operation, shutdown, and routine quality checks. Responsibilities include maintaining machines and molds, troubleshooting basic issues, and ensuring safety and environmental compliance. The role also involves housekeeping, managing product flow, and assisting with operator tasks.
Responsibilities and Duties
The fully trained Mold Tech will:
- Perform injection mold changes and machine start-ups safely and efficiently
- Follow all PPE requirements and safety procedures
- Operate equipment such as cranes and hot runner controllers safely
- Troubleshoot basic machine, equipment, and robot issues
- Assist in mold construction and troubleshooting
- Perform maintenance on Robot End-Of-Arm-Tooling
- Adjust machine processes to meet specifications
- Identify safety concerns and take appropriate action
- Communicate effectively with shift peers
- Assist in managing shift activities and training
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles for inventory and scheduling
- Assist with operator breaks and grinding tasks as needed
Training
The Mold Tech position involves progressive training over four levels, with specific time frames for each:
- Level 1 Side Load: within 5 weeks; perform mold changes and quality tasks under supervision
- Level 1 Top Load: within 2 weeks after Level 1; perform top load mold changes using crane
- Level 2: within 18 weeks after Level 1; perform full start-ups, troubleshooting, and adjustments
- Level 3: within 54 weeks after Level 2; meet all Level 3 requirements and complete training modules
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Complete all required training modules within designated timeframes
- Minimum scores on DAT Mechanical Reasoning and Wonderlic tests
- Meet physical requirements, including lifting 60 pounds repeatedly and standing/walking for entire shifts
- Wear steel-toed footwear and meet visual and crane license requirements
- Capable of exerting torque and working around magnetic fields

This position typically does not require travel.
