Akkodis is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II for a Contract-to-Hire job with a client in Chandler, AZ. This position requires 2+ years of experience in Process Improvement.

• Hourly Rate Range: $45 - $50/hour The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
• Shift: Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Type: Contract-to-Hire
• Location: Chandler, AZ

The ME/MQE will drive continuous process improvement and ensure optimum quality in all products, working closely with various disciplines to resolve manufacturing issues and enhance productivity, safety, quality, and cost-efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze, develop, implement, and maintain methods of manufacturing, work instructions, and equipment requirements for production/assembly of new and existing products.
• Find innovative ways to improve quality through new process controls and ensure sustainment following successful implementation.
• Identify inefficiencies, Lean MFG, Kaizen.Developing MFG processes and procedures. Provide guidance to develop and change existing procedures.
• Day to day manufacturing process improvement in production facility.
• Will be assigned a family of products and their responsibilities. Currently have about six different families of products. Keep them all together in their respective buildings.
• Help drive daily factory management and continuous improvement, focusing on metrics such as Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity.
• Provide ‘hands-on’ floor support, including identification and resolution of factory floor manufacturing issues, generating and approving hardware dispositions.
• Participate in Sales Order Kickoff to ensure any issues with manufacturing instructions, processes, equipment, tooling availability, Engineering Masters, and pending change notifications are resolved prior to manufacturing start.
• Participate in status communications with management and customer base.
• Identify and implement process/flow and tooling improvements to increase productivity, quality, and reliability of the manufacturing cells.
• Aid in design reviews of new products to ensure manufacturability.
• Lead Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) as well as post-design & pre-start-up Process Hazards Analysis (PHA), incorporating controls into the Manufacturing Instructions as required.
• Collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing, planning, and other disciplines to ensure product quality.
• Investigate internal and external quality concerns, lead cross-functional teams to determine root cause, and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Inspect and review paperwork for completeness and correctness, ensuring compliance with associated command media.
• Support Supplier Development Engineering when vendor hardware discrepancies are discovered.
• Interface with the customers as necessary to present technical information and/or status updates.
• Spend the majority of time working in the assembly area, with minimal time at a desk.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Aerospace and defense experience is preferred.
• Hands-on floor support for the operators; able to communicate to non-engineers what needs to be done and why
• Need to be to work by 6 AM start-of-shift meeting to support the team
• Operations works M-Th 6 AM – 4:30 PM – needs to support this schedule and work extra hours as needed to complete necessary work and occasional Fridays
• We need these engineers to take initiative, drive process, problem-solve, follow-through, self-starter, and tenacious
• 2+ years’ of experience so they have some experience and not right out of college
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with strong project management skills.

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and statistical software packages such as Minitab.
• Strong data analysis skills, including the ability to present data in reports to support investigation conclusions.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Training and demonstrated competency with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools (i.e., D/PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP) is a plus.
• Strong ‘hands on’ problem-solving skills.
• Auditing experience, including support of internal, customer, or registrar audits.
• Proven track record of continuous improvement mindset.
• Proficient using SolidWorks or similar 3-D CAD package.
• Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings and/or specifications.
• Ability to clearly explain technical findings to others.
• Must be a self-starter.

Preferred but not necessary:

• Welding background would be ideal – welding closures 304 material to 304 – sometimes a little bit tougher.
• Experience with machine shop related processes is a plus.
• Experience in weld process development and validation as well as Design of Experiments (DOE) is a plus.
• Experience with SolidWorks is a plus.
• Experience with soldering per J-STD-001 is a plus.
• Experience in Electronics or Ordnance and use of energetic materials, powders/propellants is a strong plus.
• Experience with a lean manufacturing system such as the Fortive Business System (FBS) or Six Sigma. ASQ certification is a plus.
• GD&T interpretation experience. Certification is a plus.
