Job Summary

Manufacturing Engineer position directly supports the manufacturing process for all departments, including cold forming, heat treatment, quality, secondary rolling and processing, inspection and packaging. This position works daily with the department managers, leaders and operators to design, maintain, and improve the manufacturing processes and machinery. Scope of work includes machine layouts, design improvements, spare parts, reverse engineering of unique machine components, and retrofits as required. The safe operation of all equipment is essential to our operation. Other considerations include environmental, regulatory, and quality concerns including IATF and QS standards. Maintenance and electrical support departments work daily with Engineering to support both manufacturing and distribution activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the creation of new part quote requests for mass production and trials.
  • Create and maintain part and process Control Plans, and FMEAs.
  • Determine the sequence of manufacturing steps to produce the customer part.
  • Create process routing and part setup in the Plex ERP.
  • Support the creation of internal mass production and trial drawings. Ensure updates are made throughout the ERP and documentation systems.
  • In the Plex ERP, create operator check sheets for cold heading, thread rolling, and other secondary processes. This includes process updates and continuous improvement activities.
  • Design test fixtures and part guides to support the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure all Engineering standards on file for customer part design are up to date.
  • Proficient with Windows OS, AutoCAD LT 2015, MS Office, Plex ERP.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Experience in process development, automotive assembly and related components.
  • Experience with CAD and reverse engineering of machine and assembly parts.
  • Project management experience includes preparation of timing plans, project budget and program timing.
  • Machine safety and hazard assessment experience.
  • Mechanical testing equipment methods and standards.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, with 2+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Basic understanding of FMEA, APQP and PPAPs.
  • Must understand GD & T and be able to read technical drawings.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of the company and with customers as a Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Can-do attitude and drive to succeed.
  • Self-discipline to meet and complete objectives within stressful situations and time deadlines.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Comfortable working on the manufacturing shop floor.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
