Akkodis is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for a Contract-to-Hire job with a client in Carson, CA. This position requires 1+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering.

About the role:

The engineer supports project management of industrialization deliverables on all new programs as part of the integrated program team. Responsible for high-level contribution and execution of effective industrialization of each new program. Provides Industrial Engineering expertise and coordination during the development of aircraft interior components. Responsible for determining most cost-effective methods to create products. Acts as focal point for industrialization on new programs.

Defines the production process flow and production line structure for design engineering, quality assurance, and operational excellence for a program or site. This role optimizes operations by supporting production elements mainly through the Bill of Materials, Routers, and work instructions. This role also implements manufacturing resource usage for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead others, provide solutions to complex issues for industrialization deliverables on new programs as part of the integrated program team
  • Develop and execute industrialization plans in accordance with Safran standards and program goals
  • Create, update, and improve the production element of the industrial dossier, mainly Manufacturing Bill of Materials, Routers, Standardized work instructions, including operation times, testing and tooling equipment needs
  • Provide technical contributions to the design and industrialization teams to develop optimal production processes for each product type
  • Provide feedback for DFMA (design for manufacture and assembly) and propose alternative designs based on knowledge of DFMA
  • Ensure execution of the plan for design, manufacture, and implementation of new tools or prototypes from the tooling engineering teams on the new program
  • Develop time standards and perform capacity analysis for entire programs or production lines and plans to achieve them as required
  • Develop, maintain, and report status and communicate performance on a regular basis
  • Analyze and manage industrial process and product risks during development for assignments requiring significant technical expertise
  • Know, understand, and accurately apply regulatory requirements, customer specifications and company specifications for a site or production line
  • Manage machining, assembly lines, BOM creation, line layout concepts for a Cabin BU. Be proficient with most site manufacturing procedures
  • Apply advanced concepts relating to manufacturability to engineering drawings and models
  • Provide high level technical deliverables during the manufacturing (production) engineering phase such as production documentation, industrial validation process
  • Provide system-level input to design engineering to improve product design for ease of manufacturing, optimization of cost, weight reduction and time to manufacture production
  • In product design phase: perform high-level technical analysis that demonstrates production constraints and opportunities are recognized and addressed; evaluate the current state of industrial capacity and capability relative to program requirements; propose changes to program plans to ensure production cost, quality and delivery objectives can be met
  • Perform identification and justification of capital expense and infrastructure investments and oversee their implementation for a program or site
  • Review highly complex 2D drawings and 3D models of components and systems for manufacturability
  • Perform time studies, develop work breakdown structures for programs, develop detailed work instructions and collaborate in development of specifications
  • Develop, maintain, and report status and communicate performance on a regular basis
  • Collaborate with, or lead, other engineering disciplines to provide costing and bids and proposals submitted to customers
  • Ensure that Lean principles are used to impact site production performance
  • Validate accurate and complete application of regulatory requirements, customer specifications and company specifications
  • Apply advanced concepts of machining, assembly lines, BOM creation, and production line layout for a program or site
  • Be proficient with manufacturing procedures at a site
  • Apply concepts of engineering drawings and 3D models relating to manufacturability
  • Proficiency with assembly line layout and design, and composites manufacturing for a site or program
  • In-depth knowledge of assembly line manufacturing
  • Perform all tasks safely, and to always operate with a quality mindset
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • Up to 8 years related experience in highly regulated engineering design or production environment, with experience in project management
  • Fluency with ERP systems
  • Advanced working knowledge of SolidWorks, CATIA V5, SmarTeam, AUTOCAD is preferred
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge in Visio and Project is a Plus
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and SharePoint

Other skills

  • Experience working at an aircraft or other aerospace OEM. Automotive industry experience is acceptable.
  • Deep knowledge of assembly techniques, common materials and manufacturing processes used in the aerospace and/or automotive industries
  • Proven ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and models at a system level
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma, use of LEAN tools
  • Highly developed organization and communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and cross-functionally, be proactive and a go-getter
  • Excellent time-management and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of primary processes like assembly work, CNC machining
  • Green Belt Certified is preferred
  • Advanced 3D modelling capability is preferred
  • Understanding of APQP and PPAP are a plus
