Overview

Manufacturing Technician / Machinist

Pay Rate: $34-$40/hr

Shift: 07:00 am - 15:30 pm, M-F with overtime and weekend hours as needed

Responsibilities

  • Assist with transition from development to production
  • Manufacture, assemble, and test mechanical systems according to written procedures, engineering models, drawings, specifications and written procedures
  • Interface with production leads, supervisors, manager and QA inspection to ensure timely customer delivery
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct discrepancies by modification, rework, repair, and/or maintenance; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurrence control
  • Set up and operate precision calibrated tools including lathe, gauges, and related equipment
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety and efficiency
  • Perform routine lathe operation and equipment maintenance; daily clean-up of work areas
  • Other duties as assigned or beneficial to organizational success
  • Basic mathematics skills
  • High School diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years direct experience in industrial manufacturing, integration, or other relevant field
  • Ability to work with a strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • Hand dexterity to assemble small mechanical components
  • Basic computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform repetitive work including lifting up to 44 lbs
  • Work off-shift, extended overtime, and weekends as necessary
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired Qualifications

  • Industry certification, trade school training and/or degree in related field
  • Experience in a team-based Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Experience with manual lathe machining
  • 07:00 - 15:30 schedule with overtime and weekend hours as needed

Role Details

  • The Manufacturing Technician is responsible for performing technical duties in one of the functional areas: electronic, mechanical or systems. Complete tests, measurements, operations and process controls. Perform technical duties on functional work group projects. Employ test techniques and procedures for key cell projects. Use job packets, routings, work orders, wire lists, quality travelers and bills of material. Maintain production tools and equipment. Troubleshoot to diagnose product, process or program defects and repair them. Read blueprints; identify components; perform wire preparation, stripping and crimping; perform harness repair and termination; use pertinent manual hand tools. Maintain skills in electronics, hydraulics and mechanical assemblies, automated machine operation and programming. Use the guiding principles and tools of the Manufacturing System to drive continuous improvement.

Additional Details

  • Location: 110 Gillingham Ln, Sugar Land, TX
  • Setting: Shop floor/manufacturing environment; Dress Code: Casual with required PPE (FR/non-FR coveralls, safety glasses, safety boots)
  • Team Structure: ~25 people across 3 locations; ~15 at primary site; Close-knit team; training then independent work
  • Training: On-the-job; post-training, technician works independently on test setups
  • Interview Process: Face-to-face; 45 minutes to 1 hour; qualifications, technical/situational questions, HR-style behavioral questions
  • Education/Certifications (Preferred): Associate's degree in a relevant field; IPC-610, IPC-620, J-STD-001, Lean Six Sigma
  • Minimum Experience: 1+ year in a similar role
  • Length of Assignment: 12 months; Extension or conversion to full-time possible based on performance and business needs
