The primary responsibilities include cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a sanitary, safe campus environment. This is a Support Staff Union position as stated in the Support Staff collective bargaining agreement Grade Level A.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep and/or vacuum floors/carpets, hallways, corridors, and stairways, and mop, scrub, wax, and polish floor surfaces using heavy-duty power equipment.
  • Perform necessary service and preventive maintenance such as cleaning and oiling equipment to prevent breakdown and ensure effective operation.
  • Wash, clean, disinfect, deodorize, and maintain rest rooms; replenish supplies (toilet tissue, towels, soap, deodorizer) as required.
  • Clean and polish office furniture, and empty wastebaskets.
  • Move and rearrange furniture and/or fixtures, assist in the movement of office equipment, and in loading and off-loading of office equipment and supplies.
  • Pick up litter from the immediate vicinity of assigned buildings and sweep leaves.
  • Perform snow and ice removal by scraping, shoveling, or using mechanical devices in walkways, entrances, and steps.
  • Maintain stock of designated custodial supply areas.
  • Wash windows and walls; clean air vents, window shades, and blinds.
  • Clean carpets using industry standard practices.
  • Prepare and monitor room spaces for special events and reset afterwards.
  • Respond to on-site inquiries and help resolve custodian service requests.
  • Identify and report building maintenance needs as necessary.
  • Follow Burlington County recycling regulations as prescribed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent GED; Experience: One (1) year of work experience in the custodial service field.
  • Possession of current valid driver's license.
  • Ability to operate large floor cleaning machines and to lift 40+ pounds.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning solutions and chemicals; comprehend and follow directions; communicate in English (written and spoken).
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions; perform physical tasks; establish and maintain effective working relationships; work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate buffers and other mechanized cleaning equipment; read at a standard high school level for warning labels and instructions.
  • Knowledge of carpet cleaning techniques, floor care operations, general housekeeping methods, and familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Willingness to work a revised schedule during holidays, weekends, emergency periods; substitute for other custodial staff when necessary.
  • Basic computer skills or the ability to learn within a 60-day probationary period.
  • Safety: Safely operate all vehicles and job-related equipment.

Institutional effectiveness

Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
