We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Robotic Welding Programmer to support our munitions manufacturing operations. The Robotic Welding Programmer will be responsible for programming, operating, and maintaining robotic welding systems used in the manufacturing, repair, and refurbishment of munitions components and associated equipment at Crane Army Ammunition Activity. This position ensures welding operations meet strict Department of Defense (DoD) specifications, safety standards, and production schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Programming & Setup

  • Develop, modify, and optimize programs for robotic welding systems (e.g., FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa Motoman) to support ammunition-related manufacturing and repair operations.
  • Configure welding parameters, tooling, and fixtures for various ammunition components and steel/metal assemblies.
  • Adjust programming for material changes, joint configurations, and production requirements.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Operate robotic welding equipment to produce components in accordance with engineering drawings, welding procedures, and military specifications.
  • Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on robotic welding systems to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot robotic, mechanical, and electrical issues, coordinating with maintenance and engineering teams.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Perform inspections and measurements using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools to verify conformance to MIL-STD and AWS D1.1/D17.1 standards.
  • Ensure all welding operations comply with OSHA, Army safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain accurate production, inspection, and maintenance records per CAAA quality management system.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work with engineers, quality inspectors, and production supervisors to improve weld quality and production efficiency.
  • Recommend tooling, fixture design changes, and process improvements to support lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Provide training and guidance to operators and maintenance personnel on robotic welding systems.

Qualifications (Required)

Work Status:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Security Clearance

Experience: 3-5 years of experience in robotic welding programming and operation.

Education: High School diploma, GED, or technical certificate

Skills:

  • Knowledge of G-code, teach pendant programming, and offline programming software.
  • Understanding of welding processes (MIG, TIG, FCAW) and metallurgy.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, welding symbols, and DoD/military specifications.
  • Experience with precision measuring tools and QA inspection methods.

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • AWS Certified Robotic Arc Welding (CRAW) certification.
  • Experience in a defense manufacturing or ammunition production environment.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD welding specifications and Army Technical Manuals.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
