Welding Flex Employee

Position Summary: The Welding Flex Employee is a key support role within the Industrial Welding Department at Baker Manufacturing. This position performs a variety of non-welding tasks to ensure welders can focus on skilled fabrication and assembly work. Key duties include painting, packaging, moving materials, and assisting with the cutting and threading of lift-out assemblies used in pitless units. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-conscious, and flexible across various support functions in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply industrial coatings using spray or brush techniques on fabricated parts.
  • Prep metal surfaces for painting including cleaning, masking, or light sanding.
  • Maintain paint area cleanliness and inventory of paint supplies.
  • Package welded components and finished assemblies per specifications.
  • Create and apply proper labeling for identification and shipping.
  • Ensure packaging is secure and protects parts during handling and transit.
  • Move raw materials and finished parts between work cells using forklifts, hoists, or carts.
  • Assist welders with staging materials and clearing completed work.
  • Organize and restock material areas to support continuous workflow.
  • Operate pipe cutters, threaders, and related equipment to produce lift-out assemblies for pitless units.
  • Measure and verify thread depths and pipe dimensions to ensure quality and fit.
  • Clean and prep threaded parts for welding or final assembly.
  • Assist welders and leads with job preparation and cleanup.
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities to support other department tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, hoists, and hand tools.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow instructions and job travelers.
  • Willingness to work in a physically demanding and dynamic environment.
  • Comfortable with repetitive tasks and flexible in daily work assignments.

Schedule: Monday-Thursday 5am - 3pm; Mandatory overtime on Fridays.

Compensation: 19-21 Hourly Wage
