Position Overview

Milton Manufacturing, a Detroit-based leader in defense contracting, is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support high-impact, mission-critical projects. As part of our Quality team, you’ll ensure all welding and fabrication work meets AWS standards, customer specifications, and defense industry requirements—all within a unionized production environment. This role is critical to maintaining the highest levels of compliance, quality, and reliability on programs that matter.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Conduct visual and dimensional weld inspections per AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.3, and D1.6 standards.
• Qualify and certify welders, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and union requirements.
• Review and maintain WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation.
• Inspect cut-and-etch samples and manage retention in line with customer requirements.
• Prepare and maintain accurate inspection reports, weld maps, and QA/QC records.
• Participate in pre-job planning to align welding procedures with project goals.
• Assist with root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support third-party inspections, audits, and customer quality visits.
• Provide input on weld time evaluations for earned hours and costing.

What You Bring:

• U.S. Citizenship (required for ITAR compliance).
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• 3+ years of welding inspection experience in a fabrication environment.
• Strong knowledge of GMAW and GTAW welding processes.
• Ability to read welding symbols, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality management systems.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on the production floor.
• Lift up to 25 lbs occasionally and perform tasks such as bending, kneeling, or climbing.
• Strong visual acuity for inspections and document review.
• Comfort working in varied industrial environments.
