All Temporary Part-time Instructors are compensated in accordance with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District and Shasta College Faculty Association/CTA/NEA.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Experiences
- Broad knowledge in the discipline with the ability to demonstrate the following capabilities: work effectively with colleagues to promote innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
- Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
- Ability to design and deliver courses, including in-person, online, and hybrid modalities.
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency; ability to assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of and willingness to explore new technologies and teaching practices that benefit students and programs.
- Experience with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
Specific Responsibilities
- Classroom Responsibilities: Meet classes/laboratories as assigned; develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, consistent with official course outlines and District guidelines; maintain online course components for online and hybrid courses; provide regular student-student and student-instructor contact for online/hybrid courses; develop and distribute syllabi in the first week of class; provide regular, timely feedback on student work; assign final grades in accordance with policy; respect student rights; submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials; refer students to tutoring and related services; supervise off-campus activities when required by a course; provide academic assistance during office hours; participate in professional development; submit required administrative paperwork including student learning outcomes; perform discipline-specific classroom responsibilities as assigned.
- Additional Responsibilities: Participate in evaluation processes as described in the faculty collective bargaining agreement; continue to develop professional skills and stay current in subject matter knowledge; maintain official records per District policy; abide by District policies on property and safety; report absences promptly; recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment; fulfill all obligations in the current collective bargaining agreement.
- Other Activities: Part-time faculty are encouraged to engage in activities such as maintaining office hours, participating in governance committees, curriculum review, program review and planning, department and division meetings, and learning outcomes processes; participate in professional development to improve pedagogy and student success.
Education and Experience
- Education Required: Any bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience OR the equivalent.
- Experience Required: Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse backgrounds of staff and students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.

- Equivalency: The state of California has established minimum qualifications for academic positions in California Community Colleges. Applicants who do not meet minimum education requirements may qualify through equivalency; procedures are described in district documents. Equivalency must be requested and evidenced prior to the closing date.
