Overview
Welding Inspectors – Multiple Locations – Contract (1099 independent contractor). Work will be assigned as needed across multiple locations in the USA. Pay is based on hours/days spent on assigned work, with duration potentially ranging from a single day to several weeks.
Scope Of Work
- Ensure welds and welding processes comply with codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements by performing visual inspections and witnessing/verifying non-destructive tests and their reports.
- Monitor welding parameters and inspect materials and equipment.
- Review quality documents including WPS/PQR, assess quality, and issue reports or recommendations for corrective actions to ensure safety and structural integrity of welded components.
- Verify welders are qualified and that welding procedures and specifications (WPS) are followed correctly.
- Ensure all welding activities adhere to relevant industry codes (e.g., ASME, AWS, API) and contractual requirements.
- Perform pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld inspections to identify defects and ensure quality.
- Conduct visual inspections of welded joints, checking dimensions, penetration, and bead formation.
- Witness and interpret non-destructive testing (NDT) results.
- Perform visual inspection on the quality of welding and mechanical projects; ensure materials, equipment, and safety regulations are followed.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting results, including any issues found.
Qualifications
- Must have at least one of the following: AWS / CWI / CSWIP / API.
- Minimum of five (5) years of industrial welding-related inspection experience; at least two (2) years in quality assurance/vendor surveillance/shop inspections.
- Minimum of 5–10 years of industry experience (primarily Oil and Gas).
- Demonstrated knowledge of welding inspections; experience at manufacturer shops/facilities preferred.
- Experience with inspecting pipelines and equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, etc. is an asset.
- Work schedule typically Monday to Friday; 8–10 hours/day. Hourly rate: $40–$45/hr plus $0.70/km. No set schedule; contractor will be contacted as needed.
- Per diem may be considered if the inspection site is beyond a 200-mile round trip from the inspector’s residence.
- Independent contractor/sub-contractor agreement (1099) with SGS North America Inc. is required.
