SGS is hiring: Welding Inspectors - Multiple Locations - Contract in Las Vegas

Overview

Welding Inspectors are sought for multiple locations across the USA on a contract basis. Work is assigned on an as-needed basis and will be paid for the hours or days worked, with durations ranging from one day to several weeks. An independent contractor/sub-contractor agreement (1099) with SGS North America Inc. is required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure welds and welding processes comply with codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements by performing visual inspections and witnessing and verifying non-destructive tests and their reports.
• Monitor welding parameters and inspect materials and equipment.
• Review quality documents including WPS / PQR, assess quality, and issue reports or recommendations for corrective actions to ensure safety and structural integrity of welded components.
• Verify that welders are qualified and that welding procedures and specifications are followed correctly.
• Ensure all welding activities adhere to relevant industry codes (such as ASME, AWS, API) and contractual requirements.
• Perform pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld inspections to identify defects and ensure quality.
• Conduct visual inspections of welded joints, checking dimensions, penetration, and bead formation.
• Witness non-destructive testing (NDT) and interpret and verify results.
• Conduct visual inspection on the quality of welding and mechanical projects; ensure materials, equipment, and safety regulations are followed.
• Prepare detailed reports documenting inspection results, including any issues found.

Qualifications

• Must have at least one of the following: AWS / CWI / CSWIP / API.
• Minimum of five (5) years of industrial welding-related inspection experience, with two (2) years in quality assurance, vendor surveillance, or shop inspections.
• Minimum of 5–10 years of industry experience (primarily in Oil and Gas).
• Demonstrated knowledge of welding inspections; experience at manufacturer shops/facilities is required.
• Welding inspection experience of Pipeline and equipment (e.g., pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps) is a plus.
• Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8–10 hours per day.

Compensation & Logistics

• Hourly rate: $40 to $45 per hour plus $0.70 per kilometer.
• No fixed schedule; inspector will be contacted as needed.
• If the inspection site is beyond a round trip of 200 miles from the inspector’s residence, a per diem may be considered.
• Location: multiple locations across the USA.
• The inspector will sign an independent contractor/sub-contractor agreement (1099) with SGS North America Inc.
