Welding Shop Manager / Lead Welder

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Welder with strong leadership skills to manage our welding shop/facility and lead a team of welders in executing Public Works projects within strict deadlines.
The ideal candidate will combine hands-on expertise in welding (Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum) with the ability to plan, organize, and oversee shop operations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and lead a team of welders and shop personnel.
Manage day-to-day welding shop operations and workflow.
Plan, prioritize, and assign tasks to ensure project deadlines are met.
Perform welding tasks on structural steel, beams, handrails, grating, and fabricated components using MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), or Flux-core (FCAW).
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and welding symbols, guiding team members as needed.
Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of completed work.
Maintain welding equipment, shop tools, and ensure a safe, organized work environment.
Enforce OSHA safety standards and company policies at all times.
Provide technical support and mentorship to welders.
Assist with field assembly and installation, if required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum 5 years of proven welding experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team-lead role.
Certification from an accredited welding program or trade school ().
Strong ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
Proficiency in MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-core welding.
Previous experience in fabrication, structural works, grating, and handrails is mandatory.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Physical strength and stamina for welding shop and field work.
Safety-conscious with thorough knowledge of OSHA standards.
Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated with an excellent work ethic.
Skills
Experience coordinating multiple welding projects simultaneously.
Ability to train, mentor, and motivate team members.
Familiarity with fabrication tools, layout techniques, and quality control.
Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or travel, if required.
