When it comes to welding education, you have choices. Some programs give you just enough preparation to work in the field. With the college credit Welding program at Greenville Technical College, you are not giving your skills a quick fix. Instead, you will study the fundamentals or pursue more specialized skills in a well-equipped facility where experienced, certified instructors help you lay the foundation for a lifelong career. This program trains students in the fundamentals of basic welding and print reading. The program is designed to familiarize beginning welders and those outside the welding profession with basic fundamentals of GTAW, SMAW, GMAW and basic blue print reading. The Welding program is accredited by the National Center for Construction & Research (NCCER). There are 6 full-time faculty plus supplemental adjunct instructors in the program. Program options include Welding - Certificate in Applied Science; Robotic Welding Fundamentals - Certificate in Applied Science; and Welding, Specialized - Certificate in Applied Science.
In this challenging role, you will support the Welding Department at Greenville Technical College by training welders according to the Catalog of Approved Courses (CAC) guidelines and nationally recognized welding codes and procedures. Duties may include any or all of the following:
- Teach and train welders according to the Catalog of Approved Courses (CAC) guidelines, the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Contren Learning Series, and nationally recognized welding codes and procedures
- Conduct written and hands-on tests honestly and fairly
- Maintain student safety
- Maintain appropriate paperwork in accordance with keeping student files up-to-date
- Advise students on academic progress
- Maintain competence through continuous professional development
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma, a diploma in welding with five (5) years of full-time work experience in welding OR a minimum of ten (10) full-time years in a welding discipline to include welding and metal fabrication
- Current with welding procedures (certified according to ASME Section IX) or the ability to pass a pipe welding test appropriate for class being taught

Preferred Qualifications
An Associate degree in Welding and NCCER certified welding instructor. Knowledgeable of all facets of welding to include blueprint reading, basic metallurgy, heat treating, basic math, and metrics. Have the patience and temperament to provide instruction to students of all ages and backgrounds. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and be able to perform in a smoky/dusty work environment. Have eyesight of 20/30 with or without corrected lens.
