Overview
Job Title: Instructor of Fabrication and Pipe Welding. Type of Position: Faculty.
Responsibilities
GENERAL: The instructional faculty position emphasizes teaching, scholarship, and service. The apportionment of responsibilities may be modified for a specific position and semester due to classes or other variables. Faculty will teach assigned classes according to approved course syllabi or the instructional dean. Office hours are scheduled (Mon-Fri 8:00–5:00), with evening hours possible when classes are in session. Faculty will counsel students and participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional obligations. Refer to the current faculty handbook for minimum office hour requirements. Additional events, committee meetings, professional development sessions, graduations, convocations, etc., may require attendance outside posted office hours or the typical working day.
Essential Job Functions
A. Teaching
- Classroom preparation, supervision, and instruction in face-to-face, online, hybrid, or HyFlex deliveries as determined by College Administration.
- Field-based or off-campus instruction as needed.
- Laboratory design, preparation, instruction, supervision, and related responsibilities for courses assigned.
- Student performance measurement: preparation, administration, timely grading, and evaluation of assignments and examinations; reporting of grades by the Registrar deadline; assessment and reporting of student learning outcomes at course and program levels.
- Student interactions to provide course-level support, advisement, degree planning, registration, and course assistance.
- Coordination and supervision of student activities related to the academic program.
- Experiments in teaching methods and teaching-oriented research; development and implementation of effective learning environments.
- Timely selection and procurement of books, films, and other materials for classroom, library, or laboratory use.
- Periodic evaluation of library holdings and recommendations for materials to be ordered.
- Development of new courses and programs of study, including web-based and technology-based instruction.
- Participation in curriculum development and reporting learning outcomes as required by departmental procedures.
B. Professional Development and Pedagogy Advancement
- Ongoing reading and research to maintain proficiency and growth in the field.
- Attend professional development opportunities as required by College Administration.
- Membership or office in professional associations; participation in meetings, conferences, and conventions.
C. Service
- Support student success by assisting with commencement, PTK inductions, and related ceremonies; minimum participation per faculty handbook.
- Serve on institutional and affiliated committees; participate in college-wide assessment and community recruitment activities.
- Interview and screen candidates; coordinate, advise, and supervise student organizations; assist with degree plans, registration, and graduation.
- Volunteer tutoring at Gator Success Center; participate in sponsored community service or projects.
D. Other
- Comply with office hour requirements and be available for student counseling and meetings; attend required committee meetings and events, even outside typical workday.
- Other duties as assigned by College Administration.
- Faculty members who serve as Student Organization/Club Sponsors are Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act and must report accordingly.

Role and Activities
LSCO is seeking a dedicated educator to lead and teach in the Welding program. Work in labs with modern technology, providing hands-on experience. The role includes collaboration with industry partners, curriculum development, and mentoring students toward workforce readiness. Duties include:
- Collaborate with industry partners to align curriculum with workforce demands and support local/regional employers.
- Develop innovative curriculum for high-demand, high-wage careers in welding and related fields.
- Mentor students through hands-on training, advising, and apprenticeship participation.
- Collaborate with the Agriculture and Manufacturing Department to improve outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver high-quality learning experiences aligned with the welding curriculum.
- Evaluate student performance against course objectives and provide feedback.
- Offer academic and career counseling to support student success.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and performance.
- Foster a professional, positive learning environment and relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Stay informed about technological advances and innovative teaching methodologies.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree or higher in teaching discipline, or
- Bachelor's degree or higher in any discipline with 12 undergraduate semester hours in the teaching discipline or related field, or
- Associate's degree in the discipline plus 3 years of relevant full-time work experience; qualifying disciplines include Welding, Welding Technology, Metals Science, Pipe Fitting, Industrial Education, Industrial Technology, Industrial Arts, Agriculture; or
- College certificate or industry-recognized credential in teaching discipline or related field plus 3 years of relevant full-time work experience.
Industry Experience
- Experience in Welding, Welding Fabrication, Pipe Fitting, or Pipe Welding; college teaching experience preferred.
- For technical programs, relevant job experience as per minimum faculty credential standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse student needs; adherence to college standards and policies.
Physical Requirements
- Requires sitting, standing, walking, talking, and seeing; some lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying heavy objects, driving, operating equipment; stooping and bending.

Additional Information
LSCO seeks a leader to contribute to the Welding program's growth. Areas of expertise may include:
- Welding Techniques: MIG, TIG, stick, flux-cored arc welding; safety standards and quality welds.
- Weld Inspection and Quality Control: Weld inspections, standards compliance, trouble shooting.
- Blueprint Reading and Fabrication: Reading blueprints and hands-on fabrication.
- Welding Equipment and Safety: Equipment operation, maintenance, safety protocols, PPE.
- Technical Training and Mentorship: Develop and deliver training programs; align with industry certifications.
