Responsibilities

  • Under the direction and supervision of the Vice President, Sports Medicine (VP), develop, oversee, and deliver comprehensive sports nutrition services and programming for Team USA. Collaborate with Sport Performance and NGB teams to provide high-quality nutrition support for athletes at OPTCs.
  • Provide leadership to USOPC Sports Dietitians, including Fellows, fostering team alignment and professional growth. Support the VP in designing clinical pathways for nutrition assessment, referral, treatment, and intervention; serve as a case manager for nutrition-related referrals.
  • Demonstrate expertise in clinical and performance-focused sports nutrition; maintain relevant certifications and licensures. Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and deliver evidence-based education and guidance aligned with USOPC vision and strategic goals.
  • Oversee the sports nutrition program, mentor the Sports Dietitian team, and manage performance through clear expectations and feedback. Build a high-quality network of contracted dietitian professionals and ensure contractor compliance with USOPC standards.
  • Develop and execute the Sports Dietitian Fellowship program, including didactics, mentorship, and service provision plans.
  • Collaborate on sports nutrition strategic plans and implement athlete nutrition service policies and procedures for daily operations and Games environments. Direct service coverage for athletes at Training Centers and supported delegation events.
  • Serve as a global expert to improve nutrition service provision and product engagement across Team USA and stakeholders (IOC/IPC, media, donors, partners).
  • Foster a healthy, safe, equitable, and culturally diverse environment for USOPC team members and Olympic/Paralympic athletes.
  • Support Team USA athletes in daily nutrition for performance and health, recovery strategies, weight and body composition management, nutrition disorders/disordered eating, and supplement safety. Collaborate with medical providers on labs and interventions as needed.
  • Design and supervise recovery nutrition strategies, including Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), following standard care guidelines for assigned athletes.
  • Serve as primary point of contact (PPC) with assigned NGBs.
  • Stay current on leading research in sport dietetics; translate evidence into practical nutrition recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists and Research teams to identify trends and inform strategies for nutritional health and performance that align with priorities.
  • Design, track, and document measurable outcomes of nutrition services; analyze data to enhance performance and health.
  • Evaluate athlete energy expenditure and balance; provide weight management protocols as appropriate.
  • Measure and assess body composition using standard tools (e.g., skinfolds, DXA) and other validated methods.
  • Provide targeted follow-up with athletes flagged through monitoring; offer evidence-based nutrition recommendations.
  • Evaluate supplements for legality, safety, and efficacy; make recommendations to athletes.
  • Lead individual, small group, and team nutrition education; oversee nutrition education programs for coaches, athletes, and staff; represent USOPC at conferences and events.
  • Manage scheduling of Sports Dietitian coverage; backfill responsibilities with collaboration from Food Services.
  • Adhere to HIPAA-compliant documentation and recordkeeping; maintain athlete encounter data in electronic records.
  • Maintain compliance with IOC/IPC, WADA, USADA, and Olympic/Paralympic codes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • State regulation in the field of expertise must be obtained and maintained; no infractions or disciplinary sanctions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sport Nutrition or Dietetics; Master’s preferred.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or foreign equivalent; CSSD or equivalent preferred; ADA/CDR registration or foreign equivalent.
  • Current Health Care Provider CPR.
  • ISAK certification preferred; SafeSport, Anti-Doping, and Blood-borne Pathogen training within 30 days of employment.
  • 10+ years of experience providing sports nutrition counseling to elite and diverse athlete populations at international, national, professional, and collegiate levels.
  • Experience with standard sports nutrition tools (calipers, DXA, etc.) and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership of project teams or staff; collaborative, people-centered leadership style.
  • Deep understanding of Performance Nutrition and adherence to professional, legal, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Strong communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office and nutrition analysis programs.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations (athletes, coaches, staff, physicians, volunteers, medical personnel).
  • Compliance with health and safety standards; ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to manage non-routine matters and special projects with minimal instructions.

  • Frequent domestic and international travel, including to OPTCs.
  • Occasional irregular hours (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas; regular attendance is essential.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hiring pay range: $112,550 - $142,939 per year
  • Full-time, exempt; 40 hours per week
  • Annual incentive program eligibility (20% target)
