Overview

The Certified Sports Dietitian role at Tulane University provides comprehensive nutritional services to a diverse population in the Tulane Center for Sport. The dietitian will support Tulane University Athletics, community, and campus partners. The position involves education and outreach to enhance health and support success for all clients and includes nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy for high school, collegiate, and professional athletes, with emphasis on eating disorder treatment, sports nutrition, weight management, and prevention and management of chronic disease.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nutritional services to a diverse population in the Tulane Center for Sport.
  • Support Tulane University Athletics as well as community and campus partners.
  • Engage in education and outreach to enhance health and support client success.
  • Provide nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy to high school, collegiate, and professional athletes, focusing on eating disorder treatment, sports nutrition, weight management, and prevention and management of chronic disease.

  • Oral and written communication skills that contribute to effective collaboration with patients, faculty, and staff.
  • High level of organizational skills with a proven record of delivering quality results in a timely manner.
  • Ability to manage projects and deliver results.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population from a non-judgmental perspective.
  • Proficient computer skills; working knowledge of electronic medical records software applications.
  • Ability to provide clinical nutrition counseling to patients with other medical and/or psychological challenges.
  • Ability to provide exemplary patient care and customer service, including maintaining confidentiality and being reliably available to patients when they seek care or advice.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Master\'s degree from a US regionally accredited university or college in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food systems management, including coursework accredited or approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Clinical nutrition and preventive care counseling experience.
  • Completed ACEND-accredited supervised practice program at a health-care facility, community agency, or a food service corporation, or combined with undergraduate or graduate studies.
  • Passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR).
  • Licensure to practice as a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in the State of Louisiana.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in nutrition counseling.
  • CSSD certification.
  • Experience with eating disorders.
