Overview
Mortenson's Sports and Entertainment Group is seeking a passionate Safety Engineer II who can interact with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment. The Safety Engineer will implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program at a project site and ensure a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction work site. This is a travel position with the possibility of full-time work on a project site. Mortenson offers traveler benefits for projects away from regional office locations.
Responsibilities
- Implement and administer safety programs at each worksite for team members
- Assist project management team in developing and executing site-specific safety programs and activities
- Attend, coordinate, and conduct safety orientation and training programs at the project level
- Document and track all safety violations, unsafe conditions, etc.
- Conduct work area safety audits
- Conduct project’s leading and trailing indicator data/document collection and trend analyses
- Conduct or assist with major incident analysis
- Record, monitor, and analyze safety, injury, and hazard statistics
- Coordinate OSHA reporting and posting requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, or related field; OR
- High school diploma, STS/CHST Certification, OSHA 30 Hour Training, and a minimum of seven years of continuous construction experience leading crews and planning work, including at least five years with responsibility for managing safety programs at the crew or project level, conducting and reviewing hazard analyses and developing controls, planning work activities
- Minimum of one year of related experience
- Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and pertinent safety-related software programs
- Positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate company policies to team members and outside parties
- Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Effective public speaking and presentation skills
- Current driver’s license
- Ability to travel up to 100%

Pay and Location
The base pay range for this role is $79,800 - $107,700 per year. The range may be higher for certain offices (Denver, CO; Chicago, IL — +5%; Seattle, WA — +10%; Portland, OR — +10%; Washington, DC — +12.5%). The base pay is positioned within the range based on knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration of internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
