Overview

The City of Alameda's Recreation and Parks Department is seeking part-time Tennis & Sports Instructors. Work schedule will vary and may include evenings and weekends, but is year round including during the summer. Effective June 1, 2025 a new hourly salary schedule goes into effect.

Salary ranges (hourly): Recreation Leader: Step 1 $17.46 to Step 5 $19.27; Recreation Specialist I: Step 1 $19.79 to Step 5 $24.06; Recreation Specialist II: Step 1 $21.99 to Step 7 $29.47. Alameda is an island city of about 78,000 located next to Oakland and offers a full-service municipal recreation program. There are five tennis court complexes in the City of Alameda.

Mission and values: The mission of the Alameda Recreation and Park Department is to provide programs to the community with trained staff. A wide variety of social, physical and educational opportunities are offered for personal enrichment through wholesome and creative use of leisure time. The department emphasizes excellent customer service and adherence to its mission; staff are expected to promote these values.

Responsibilities

  • Instructors will create lessons for groups and individuals including kids and adults.
  • Assist with setting up, taking down, and storing equipment; perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and requirements

  • All positions require current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR and a recent TB test prior to the beginning of the program or as a condition of hire.
  • Must be age 16 or older by the time of employment to apply.

  • Fingerprinting is required for all recreation employees and volunteers with direct contact or supervisory authority over minors; conditional offers are followed by fingerprinting.

Work conditions

  • Part-time positions may be eligible for limited benefits and are at-will. Work schedules vary but may not exceed 28 hours per week. Work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
