Overview
Alameda is an island city of 78,000 located next to the city of Oakland and offers a full-service municipal recreation program. Neighborhood recreation programs are offered at ten locations throughout the city. Alameda’s Sports and Fitness Program provides year-round opportunities for residents of all ages to engage in active, healthy lifestyles through structured classes, leagues, and drop-in activities.

ARPD’s diverse sports and fitness offerings include youth and adult classes, seasonal leagues, clinics, camps, and special events. Activities include basketball, dance, football, golf, kayaking, martial arts, pickleball, softball, walking, and yoga. Programs are held at parks, gyms, waterfront areas, and community centers throughout Alameda. Leaders may assist with setup, instruction, supervision, and participant engagement. Special events such as tournaments, themed fitness nights, and community wellness days are scheduled regularly to promote active living and social connection.

Qualifications & Requirements
- ALL POSITIONS require current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR and a recent TB Test prior to the beginning of the program or agree to get both as a condition of being hired. Must be 16 years or older. Volunteer or Recreation experience desirable.
Selection Process

Fingerprinting & Other Requirements
FINGERPRINTING REQUIREMENT: California State Law requires that all recreation employees and volunteers having direct contact, supervisory or disciplinary authority over minors be fingerprinted as a condition of employment. Candidates given a conditional offer of employment will be referred for fingerprinting. Employment is conditioned upon fingerprint results.
Part-time positions with the City of Alameda may be eligible for limited benefits and are considered at-will. Work schedules vary but may not exceed 28 hours per week.
E-VERIFY: The City of Alameda utilizes the Federal government\'s E-Verify program and new employees must provide documentation to establish both identity and work authorization, which includes showing a valid United States Social Security card at the time of hire (photocopies not accepted).
