Overview
Under the direction of the Manager, Wooster Campus Life and Engagement, the Recreational Sports Specialist 1 supports the University’s mission to promote intellectual, cultural, personal, professional, and social development for students. This position develops, plans, and coordinates student activities, programs, and schedules events for OSU CFAES Wooster Campus including intramurals, recreational sports and activities, fitness programs, and health and wellness initiatives.
The Specialist collects, maintains, and analyzes data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs; participates in establishing and implementing policies as they relate to programs; coordinates the operation of the athletic fields; collaborates with the hiring and training of department student staff, and may directly supervise student workers.
This position oversees the daily operations of the Student Activity Center, including scheduling, operations, open gym hours, and recreational events. Ensures a clean, safe, and organized environment and implements a preventative maintenance and equipment replacement schedules.
The Recreational Sports Specialist also participates in orientation sessions and supports all Campus and Student Life activities and events with potential for cross-campus collaboration between other regional campuses and the Columbus campus. They develop and provide promotional materials and information for various forms of communication including flyers, social media, and websites. They serve on university committees as appropriate.
Administrative responsibilities include management for recreational sports and the Student Activity Center, maintaining incident and accident reports, and collaborating with regional student activities and recreational personnel.
Evening and weekend hours are required.

Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee student activities, programs, and events for OSU CFAES Wooster Campus, including intramurals, recreational sports, fitness programs, and wellness initiatives.
- Collect, maintain, and analyze data to evaluate program effectiveness; assist in policy development related to programs.
- Coordinate operation of athletic fields; hire, train, and supervise department student staff as appropriate.
- Oversee daily operations of the Student Activity Center: scheduling, open gym hours, recreational events; ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment; implement preventative maintenance and equipment replacement schedules.
- Participate in orientation sessions; support Campus and Student Life activities with cross-campus collaboration potential; develop promotional materials for flyers, social media, and websites.
- Serve on university committees as appropriate; manage administrative aspects for recreational sports and the Student Activity Center; maintain incident/accident reports; collaborate with regional staff.
- Work evenings and weekends as required.

Qualifications
- Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Required Qualifications: Valid Ohio driver’s license.
- Desired Qualifications: Preferred experience with recreational studies and sports management.
- 2 years of experience in recreational, intramural, or athletic programming.
- Experience with fitness equipment and eSports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in publication design and promotional materials.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
