Job Title: Security Supervisor   Department: Administration and Planning | DPS Central Campus Security

Position Overview

Ohio State’s Department of Public Safety is hiring a Security Supervisor to join the Central Campus Security Team and supervise security officers. The Security Supervisor focuses on safety of the university community as the top priority and provides physical security for various campus locations. The Supervisor provides and models stellar customer service as they engage with the community to provide a physical security presence, conduct high-visibility patrols, protect valuable property and provide general assistance such as giving directions and escorting people to locations on campus.

The Security Supervisor provides daily supervision to security officers and other personnel; plans, assigns and reviews work; conducts performance evaluations; trains staff in security and safety procedures; performs related administrative duties; carries out public relations activities, keeps records and prepares reports. The Supervisor also develops and conducts safety, fire prevention and crime prevention programs; analyzes and recommends changes in policies and procedures; directs all aspects of security work; appears in court; assists other agencies in investigating crimes, complaints, and accidents; and is responsible for all aspects of shift operations. The current probationary rate for this position is $26.79/hr.

Duties and Responsibilities

70% Plans, assigns and reviews work of security officers; conducts performance evaluations; trains staff in security and safety procedures; performs related administrative duties; carries out public relations activities, keeps records and prepares reports using Microsoft Office products; develops and conducts safety, fire prevention and crime prevention programs; analyzes and recommends changes in policies and procedures; directs all aspects of security work; appears in court; assists other agencies in investigating crimes, complaints and accidents and is responsible for all aspects of shift operations.

25% Patrols buildings and grounds to check on security conditions. Reports on equipment malfunctions, fire and safety hazards, water leaks, and any other condition requiring correction. Responds to alarms and performs customer service functions such as providing directions, providing escorts to nearby campus locations and assisting disabled patrons. Works in security control center; monitors CCTV cameras; answers telephones; dispatches security officers; maintains radio contact. Monitors fire and security alarms. Performs a variety of safety and security duties including but not limited to: administering first aid, operating fire-fighting equipment and conducting safety, fire and security programs.

5% Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Criminal justice experience and/or education desired
  • Ability to work 3rd shift primarily and be subject to 24-hour call-in (days off may vary)
  • Possession of valid Ohio driver’s license
  • Must have no felony, drug or sexual related criminal convictions
  • Must pass health standards (including drug screen) and requirements prior to employment
  • Completion of field training program within first three months of employment
