Do you have a passion for sports and a desire to support community recreation? Cary is seeking energetic and creative individuals to join our team as Athletic Aide IVs.
This position plays a key role in delivering high-quality athletic activities for citizens and requires strong communication skills, critical thinking, and exceptional enthusiasm for sports. Athletic Aide IVs will manage and supervise athletic program activities, including youth and adult sports leagues, special events, tournaments, and athletic facility rentals.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends, as needed.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
- Provides on-site supervision of youth and adult sports leagues
- Supervises scorekeepers and gym attendants assigned to athletic games and facilities
- Handles difficult situations and settles disputes involving participants, spectators, officials, and scorekeepers
- Opens, sets up, and closes athletic and park facilities
- Keeps score for adult and youth sports leagues, running the scoreboard and keeping scorebook
- Fills out accident report forms and incident report forms, and ensures the accuracy of reports filled out by other Athletic Aides
- Collects all results forms, accident report forms, incident report forms, and other paperwork
- Assists with the administration of special events and league-related activities, such as equipment distribution, uniform distribution, and league team placements
- Communicates issues and problems to full-time Athletic staff, booking agents, and emergency personnel
- Enforces Town of Cary policies
- Provides routine information on departmental policies, procedures, and services
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
- Considerable knowledge of major sports, particularly baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball, and general knowledge of other sports
- General knowledge of common computer software
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and the public, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to interact with the public and participants tactfully and constructively
- Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of time
Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
- Some supervisory experience in community or group recreation activities in athletics
- Some experience working with a recreation software
Physical Requirements
Work in this class requires the employee to be able to move about freely and walk unassisted in order to move about the facility. An employee must be able to lift or move moderately heavy to heavy items (up to 75 lbs. for an item on wheels, and up to 25 lbs. regularly) such as equipment bags, pitching machines, and other related equipment. Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal. The employee must be able to work outside in various weather conditions, such as rain or heat, for extended periods of time.
Conditions of Employment
Requires possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
