Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Comprehensive Oral Health houses several disciplines including, Periodontology, Dental Hygiene, Comprehensive Dentistry, Operative Dentistry/BioMaterials, Prosthodontics, and Endodontics. The Prosthodontics discipline focuses on the restoration and replacement of teeth and/or craniofacial structures.
Position Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to support the students, residents and program directors in the provision of the restorative lab procedures, protocols and cases. This will include the coordination of the didactic and clinic programs, develop clinical and didactic curriculum, and serve as the main contact for students and their patients to manage lab process and procedural issues. The position will also provide program support to the program directors as needed in the didactic restorative curriculum. This position will also complete tasks as directed by the Department Chair.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalency and two years related work experience; or completion of a two year dental laboratory technology training program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Knowledge in the use of dental implants and digital computer modeling is essential. The successful candidate will be skilled in multiple facets of dental technology, including restorative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics. These skills include, but are not limited to, standard laboratory procedures including:
- Additive manufacturing with resins
- Subtractive manufacturing with ceramics
- Design and fabrication of crown and bridgework
- Repair of complete and partial dentures
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Progressive experience with creative laboratory solutions for complex cases and operations. Training and proficiency in various digital design platforms. Strong business acumen and mentoring experience. Good verbal and written communication. Experience with digital dentistry. Certified Dental Technician preferred
Special Physical/Mental Requirements : Must be able to stand for long periods of time and move up to 25 pounds. Push rolling carts occasionally as required for event set up.
