Night Shift Production Supervisor - frontline supervisory role focused on safety, corrective action, employee relations, housekeeping, and performance reviews for a shift or multiple shifts of hourly employees. Responsible for recommending improvements to production methods, equipment performance and product quality. Supervises, directs, advises, and trains manufacturing team members in accordance with established policies and procedures to ensure production demands are met. Ensures activities are focused on quality, safety, and environmental responsibility. Actively encourages and supports employee involvement, continuous improvement, 5S, and lean manufacturing concepts.
Hours: Monday - Friday, 6PM - 2AM
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitates the manufacture of building products to meet production demands, while ensuring quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.
- In conjunction with appropriate plant leadership, develops and implements staffing guidelines to maximize utilization of human resources while controlling labor costs.
- Hires, supervises, evaluates, and replaces staff as required to ensure performance objectives are met or exceeded.
- Maintain a high degree of leadership and supervisory skills including developing and training direct reports so they are prepared for career advancement and increasing responsibilities; conduct performance evaluations and address feedback; lead shift meetings for Safety and Production items as instructed by the manager.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives including 5S and conversion cost reduction.
- Provide technical leadership and training to shift personnel in areas such as line setup/operation, testing, tooling, troubleshooting, machine metrics definition/reporting, changeover, safety procedures, record keeping, and training facilitation.
- Identify potential career paths for employees and help them develop their skills and knowledge for advancement.
- Provide documentation and follow up to training and job responsibilities.
- Interview qualified candidates for manufacturing positions and recommend candidates for hire.
- Assign personnel to production areas and oversee line or area rotations and break schedules during assigned shifts while maintaining clear communication for seamless transition and troubleshooting progress.
- Complete or oversee paperwork related to line operation, operator logs, PM logs, audits, and corrective action. Be agile in responding to short-notice production or shipping needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of all safety policies and regulations and the ability to address unsafe acts and conditions.
- Administer policies in a fair and consistent manner.
- Provide coaching and counseling to employees and implement corrective action when needed, following company guidelines.
- Promote the overall goals of safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Identify and assist with implementations for continuous process improvement.
- Use statistics or other resources to better control the production process.
- Control materials to eliminate waste.
- Performs other reasonable duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible supervisory/leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with the ability to educate and train non-degreed operators and technicians in a production environment.
- Ability to be a true team member with other key plant leadership members.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, mentor and train employees regularly.
- Highly skilled and motivated individual proficient in all areas of production operation.
- Possesses a high degree of current quality standards and checks.
- Proficient in STOP and 5S principles.
- Upper level mathematical and mechanical skills required.
- Excellent attendance record.
Physical Requirements
- Walks and stands for 12 hours.
- Frequently lifts and carries 0-10 lbs; occasionally lifts and carries 10-20 lbs.
- Frequently bends, squats, climbs, kneels, twists, push, pull and reach.
- May use a forklift or other lifting/transporting devices.
