Job Description

Quality Technician

DATE: 07/11/2022
REPORTS TO: Quality Manager

This highly skilled technical position supports the plant's quality assurance functions, including maintaining GMP standards, food safety, product security, Real SPC management, defect analysis, and data assessment. The incumbent assists the Quality Manager in assigning and controlling internal quality functions, directs and coordinates efforts of Quality Auditors in the absence of the Quality Manager, and performs shift duties of a Quality Auditor when needed.

Responsibilities and Authority

  1. Follow all safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook and safety training programs.
  2. Adhere to the responsibilities and authority outlined in the Quality Manual, Operational Procedures, and Instruction Manuals.
  3. Work within the team/ISO environment.
  4. Prepare and conduct or coordinate quality-related training.
  5. Maintain instrument calibration programs.
  6. Follow up on corrective and preventive actions effectively.
  7. Participate in quality system and GMP audits.
  8. Maintain vendor records and supply data/reports (COAs).
  9. Write or assist in writing procedures, policies, and instructions.
  10. Place on hold any suspect product and communicate issues to relevant managers and leads.
  11. Release HFI products once disposition is determined by the Material Review Board.

Additional Duties

  • Perform duties of a Quality Lead as required.
  • Assist with automatic inspection devices.
  • Travel to customer, vendor, or other locations.
  • Shutdown defective or out-of-spec machines.

Skills and Abilities

  • Pass a local Quality aptitude test (minimum score 84%) covering math and reading comprehension.
  • Ability to interpret data, histograms, X-bar, and R charts.
  • Pass a drug screening test.
  • Require supervisor recommendation if filling from within.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Completion of a recognized SPC course.
  • All skills and abilities of a Quality Auditor.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel at least 25% of the time.
  • Ability to work both shifts.

Authority Level

The incumbent has the right to hold for inspection any product that does not meet specifications and to shut down machines posing safety or quality issues.
