The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for directing and administering all Housekeeping operations to ensure the overall cleanliness and product quality of the hotel, supporting the hotel’s ongoing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. This position includes the Laundry Department and works closely with the maintenance team.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure and maintain cleanliness, service and product quality standards for guest rooms, public spaces, offices, banquet/meeting/conference rooms in accordance with local and company health, sanitation and safety standards
  • Lead, direct and administer all Housekeeping operations including systems use and management, budgeting and forecasting, inventory control, policy and procedure implementation and enforcement, and meeting participation and facilitation
  • Monitor and develop team member performance with supervision, professional development, scheduling, coaching and counseling, evaluating performance and delivering recognition and rewards
  • Recruit, interview and train team members
  • Ensure proper usage of chemicals and cleaning supplies by monitoring usage, providing training, and ensuring proper labeling of hazardous supplies in accordance with regulations
  • Create and post weekly schedules for Housekeeping and Laundry Team Members
  • Physically check rooms made ready by Room Attendants to confirm readiness for guest check-in and update in the computer
  • Clean/prepare rooms during high occupancy or when team members are unavailable
  • Work closely with Front Office to ensure guest room satisfaction
  • Oversee Laundry operations
  • Collaborate with maintenance to maintain Laundry Equipment
  • Ensure Housekeeping and Laundry supply inventory is ordered and stored properly
  • Report and log Lost and Found items
  • Ensure storage areas are locked and all sheets are turned in to the front desk
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of Public areas
  • Maintain excellence in hotel and guest room cleanliness

Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Prior experience in a Supervisor or Manager role
  • Previous hotel experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Ability to apply basic supervision principles and techniques
  • Ability to plan and organize activities of others
  • Ability to guide a group or individual to accomplish a task
  • Adapt leadership style to reach goals
  • Clear written and oral communication
  • Ability to handle conflict in a team environment

Physical Demands

  • Stand and walk for long periods; use arms, hands and legs; handle or feel objects; reach; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; may climb or balance; talk and hear; push a cart up to 60 pounds
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

  • Work environment can be high-stress and mentally demanding

Qualification Standards

  • Dependable and productive
  • High school education or equivalent required; some college preferred
  • Minimum six (6) months related experience or training preferred
  • Ability to lead a team of 15+ employees
