Overview

The Housekeeping Aid role is located in the Environmental Management Services Division of VA Health Care Systems, Salt Lake City, UT. The position performs janitorial and custodial services such as sweeping, scrubbing, and waxing floors; washing windows and walls; dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures; and cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting all assigned work areas. Work is performed by hand and with light- and heavy-powered cleaning equipment (e.g., scrubbers, buffers).

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping tasks.
  • Clean wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture; empty waste baskets; clean light globes and Venetian blinds; wash walls, windows and ceilings; climb small ladders as needed; refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers; move furniture.
  • Carry out assignments with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

Continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. Occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment weighing over 50 pounds. Requires dexterity, hand/foot coordination, and visual acuity to recognize dirt and debris.
