Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician provides hands-on technical expertise for the maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance of facility equipment to reduce downtime and increase operational efficiency in a validated, cGMP environment. Equipment includes machinery, buildings, control systems, safety and security systems. Responsibilities also include maintaining shop tools, inventory, and updating the CMMS in line with Lean and 5S principles. This role may support after-hours emergency responses and assists with parts inventory systems. Depending on modality, this is a physical role requiring strength and endurance. This is a 3rd shift position (hours: 5:30pm – 5:30am rotating). Training is during the dayshift (5:30am – 3:30pm initially, M-F).
What You’ll Do as a Maintenance Technician
- Perform technical troubleshooting on various modalities and technologies; conduct regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on validated processing equipment; review maintenance tasks for effectiveness and frequency and suggest continuous improvement or Lean practices to management.
- Optimize processing and reduce downtime by performing predictive and preventive maintenance on all equipment and facilities; assist with installation of new equipment; maintain electrical systems (including facility lighting); perform general maintenance (landscaping, painting, carpentry).
- Contribute to a safe, secure, and clean workplace by conducting safety/maintenance inspections (daily, weekly, quarterly, semi-annual) per guidelines; complete GMP-compliant paperwork; follow safety procedures (LOTO, SDS) and environmental requirements for waste and disposal.
- Support production efficiency by completing shift work, responding to off-shift maintenance calls on a 24-hour rotating on-call basis; maintain spare parts program and escalate repairs as needed.
- Maintain building climate by servicing HVAC systems.
- Pursue continuous improvement by analyzing operations, monitoring production efficiency, incorporating input, and handling audit findings constructively.
- Continuously develop mechanical and technical skills through training, certifications, and knowledge sharing; perform minor repairs as needed.
- Contribute to the team by adhering to STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles, and other directives; support management decisions and perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Skills, and Abilities
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in maintenance systems, mechanical processes, and production output in a manufacturing/industrial/military environment.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; work independently under general guidelines.
- Computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, email, calendar, virtual platforms, CMMS software).
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Adequate organizational, analytical, and math skills (ratio, basic algebra) to address problems and corrective actions.
- May require PLC/control experience.
- Ability to adapt to changing duties and perform other duties as assigned.
- Working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanics or electrical applications; ability to read blueprints and schematics.
- Normal hearing sufficient to hear alarms and signals.
Preferred
- Support Lean practices and principles.
Other
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including physical capacity evaluation and annual physical, as appropriate.
- Ability to complete Operator training and certification as required, including annual re-certification.
- Subject to NRC background check if required by modality.

Pay rate for this opportunity is $25/hr. This position is eligible for bonus participation. Minimum pay rates comply with local minimums and are based on factors including experience, education, and certifications.
