Overview

Sanitation Manager - 3rd Shift at Maker's Pride. The Plant Sanitation Manager develops and directs the Sanitation program and ensures current Food Safety Standards are met throughout the site. The role trains and develops sanitation employees to identify and control GMP issues and to enforce food safety standards. Communicates sanitation issues clearly with the Plant Manager, Quality Manager, Maintenance Manager, Business Unit Manager, Shipping Manager, line foremen, and sanitation staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Sanitation program (HACCP, Allergens, etc.) for various products, in compliance with customer and government regulations.
  • Assist with consumer complaint issues and lead plant teams to minimize complaints.
  • Develop sanitation procedures and paperwork.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the Plant Manager and Quality/Sanitation teams.
  • Collaborate with the Sanitation team to identify sanitation or regulatory issues at the assigned facility.
  • Ensure facility readiness for third-party, regulatory, or customer inspections.
  • Assist with policy, procedures, and paperwork to achieve company and customer standards.
  • Provide an environment that supports development of supervisors and managers.
  • Manage the Master Sanitation Schedule for assigned facilities.
  • Lead continuous improvement of facility sanitation; control and maintain the sanitation budget.
  • Manage sanitation chemical suppliers and purchase sanitation and janitorial supplies; oversee sanitation supply inventory.
  • Supervise sanitation staff; approve hours and schedules as needed.
  • Collaborate with Safety and Quality managers to identify and correct sanitation or environmental issues.
  • Ensure chemicals used are approved and have current SDS on site; oversee titrations of chemicals needing dilution.
  • Develop and train all steps of each plant cleanup; escalate pest control issues and manage pest control programs where directed.
  • Other duties as identified or assigned by Quality Manager/Plant Manager.

Required Knowledge, Competencies & Skills

  • Master Sanitation Plan and other legal requirements for the food industry, including GMPs.
  • Knowledge of FDA and USDA requirements; GMPs, HACCP, Allergens, SQF/BRC.
  • Understanding of the 10 Principles of Sanitary Design and 7 Steps of Sanitation.
  • Understanding of equipment and how ingredients affect insect/harborage development.

Skills

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain programs and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; computer literate; self-motivated; sound business decisions.
  • Strong motivational and people skills.

Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical ability, leadership, and ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency

  • MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel); SAP and NEOGEN experience a plus; Dayforce or similar workforce management software a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree preferred.
  • Five+ years in the food industry with at least three in a leadership role (e.g., Sanitation Manager/Supervisor).
  • Certifications such as PCQI, HACCP, SQF Practitioner are a plus.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office and processing/plant floor environment; multi-shift operations may include noise, dust, moving machinery, and forklifts.
  • Exposure to wet/humid settings and temperature fluctuations (refrigerated, ambient, or warm).

Sponsorship for work authorization is not available. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the location. Pay range: $97,210 - $145,814/year. Base pay depends on location, experience, and education. Eligible for discretionary annual incentive based on company and individual performance. Benefits: health, dental, 401k, wellness from day one.
