Job Title: Night Stocker | Department: Grocery | FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hy-Vee, Inc. is seeking a Night Stocker to unload product, open containers, stock shelves, rotate product, and support store operations to ensure excellent customer service and a well-organized store environment.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, learns customers names when possible, and addresses them by name.
  • Assists customers with locating products, helps with security of out-of-reach items, loads or unloads heavy items, and communicates customer suggestions or requests.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
  • Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Unloads trucks, opens containers, stocks shelves, rotates product, and monitors for miss-picked items and product outs.
  • Organizes stock for efficiency, cleans and restocks damaged items; tags shelves and backroom overstock; reports new or different items for system input.
  • Maintains adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress; reports to work as scheduled.

Secondary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assists in other areas of the store as needed and performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Worker Characteristics

  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret instructions.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; provide identifying information and request supplies as needed.

Education And Experience

High school or equivalent experience. Six months or less of related work experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform very heavy work, with lifting in excess of 100 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds frequently; up to 20 pounds constantly.
  • Visual requirements include near and far vision, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Exposure to dirt, noise, equipment movement hazards, and chemicals/solvents daily; occasional temperature extremes and electrical shock risk.

Equipment Used To Perform Job

Power jack, compactor, order machine, check register, forklift, scales, and Tomra machines.
