Responsibilities

• Transload various dimensional products such as lumber, plywood, OSB, and palletized goods.
• Operate forklifts and other transloading equipment safely and in a timely manner to load and unload rail cars, trucks, and containers.
• Troubleshoot and make repairs to equipment (hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, etc.), assist with maintenance and cleanup, and perform other duties as assigned.
• Participate in safety training programs, which may require brief and occasional travel.
• Collaborate professionally with Savage Team Members and customers.
• Typical schedule – Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.

Requirements Of a Successful Transload Operator

• Strong mechanical skills.
• Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision; pass a skills test on the type of work performed.
• Must be able to read, write, and understand English and follow written/verbal instructions for safety reasons.
• Ability to work holidays, weekends, overtime, and travel to other sites as needed.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Physical Requirements

• Exposure to outdoor elements; ability to climb on/off railcars and forklifts safely; operate railcar hand brakes and rail switches.
• Walk long distances; sit, kneel, squat, bend, stand; work on uneven ballast surfaces for extended periods.
• Lift 15 lbs regularly; lift up to 50 lbs consistently; use basic hand tools.
• Adhere to personal hygiene and grooming standards as defined by applicable guidelines.
• Respirators may be required; a clean-shaven face is required to ensure proper fit and use of safety equipment.
