JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), under the supervision of a Licensed Practitioner, Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), provides basic nursing care and assists with activities of daily living for a designated group of healthcare consumers. The role involves creating an organized work environment that promotes efficient workflow for clinical staff and delivering services that address the spiritual, physiological, social, and psychological aspects of patient care. This position supports the mission and core values of CHI Health.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the nursing process—assess, plan, implement, and evaluate—under the supervision of a Licensed Practitioner, RN, or LPN. The nursing process is continuous and may end at any stage.
- Assessment: Contribute to evaluating the health status of patients through observation and data collection.
- Planning: Assist in developing the care plan by communicating findings to the multidisciplinary team.
- Implementation: Provide basic patient care activities as delegated based on the care plan.
- Evaluation: Observe responses to interventions and communicate findings to the team.
- Document all care provided accurately in the patient's record.
- Maintain personal and professional development, ensuring a safe work environment and fostering collaboration within the nursing team.
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, maintaining logs, generating reports, and scheduling appointments.
- Prioritize responses and communicate effectively with team members.
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations to support clinical staff.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Active certification as a Nurse Assistant on the Nebraska and/or Iowa Nurse Aide Registry, depending on the work location.
- Basic Life Support certification required upon hire, from an acceptable credentialing body such as the American Heart Association.
- For Skilled Nursing Facility positions: Completion of a 75-hour state-approved Nursing Assistant course if hired after April 30, 1998.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of CNA scope of practice, critical thinking, communication skills, technical skills, attention to detail, customer service, adaptability, and confidentiality.
