Overview
Provide basic patient care under direction of nursing staff. Perform duties such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, or moving/transferring/transporting residents.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents to perform daily living activities including bathing (bed baths, tub baths, showers), dressing/undressing, toileting (assist to bathroom or supply, collect or empty drainage bags, bedpans, urinals, beside commodes, etc.), ambulation (with gait belt, independent, assisted, walker, wheelchair), and lifting or assisting others to move residents onto or off beds or chairs (1-2 person lift, hoyer, sari lift).
- Answer patient call signals to determine patients' needs.
- Communicate with patients to ascertain feelings or need for assistance or social and emotional support.
- Administer specialized care to residents such as urinary catheters, oxygen, colostomy and ileostomy care, and care for impaired skin integrity as directed by a physician or nurse.
- Apply slings and stockings under direction of nurse or physician.
- Change bed linens or make beds.
- Measure and record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration), intake and output (I&O), activities of daily living (ADLs), and food and liquid intake; collect specimens (urine and stool) in the CNA care plan book and report changes to nursing staff.
- Document or report observations of patient behavior, complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses.
- Observe or examine patients to detect symptoms that may require medical attention.
- Feed or assist residents to eat or drink.
- Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure an appropriate diet.
- Record vital signs (weight, height, blood pressure, respiration, temperature, post mortem care) of residents for admission, transfer, discharge, or death.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information and care in compliance with HIPAA and Resident Rights.
- Transport residents within the Village or other areas using wheelchairs or assisted walking.
- Review and implement all aspects of the care plan with residents; provide ideas for improvement to the care plan.
- Encourage residents toward greater independence.
- Maintain required CNA certification and participate in required annual state in-service; attend and participate in staff meetings and maintain a minimum of 12 in-service hours annually.
- Provide a safe atmosphere for residents by conducting safety checks and report any resident absence from the premises immediately following Village policy.
- Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings and training opportunities to stay informed on current information and skill development.
- Follow established policies and procedures including Presbyterian Villages policies and procedures, safety policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Certificates & Licenses: MI Certified Nursing Assistant
Computer Skills: Must have ability to operate a computer; operate Electronic Medical Records
Other Requirements: Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands: - Handling/Fingering - Reach Outward/Above Shoulder - Squat/Kneel/Bend - Lift/Carry up to 100 lbs. - Push/Pull up to 100 lbs
