Job Summary: Works as a member of the nursing team under the supervision of the Registered Nurse on assignments that are routine in nature and within authorized duties of the CNA Acute Care. Tasks performed have predetermined procedures and guidance and supervision is provided as needed. Position supports RN in patient care delivery as dictated by comfort and safety and in accordance with identified training and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Problem Solving: Work tasks are fully defined. Refers more difficult issues to RN.
  • Decision-Making: Uses judgment to perform tasks. Accepts accountability for own actions.
  • Compliance Accountability: Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility by maintaining privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting organizational assets, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable laws, accreditation and licensure requirements, and Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrates effective written/verbal communication. Documents and relays messages or instructions accurately. Reports patient information on a timely basis. Verifies understanding and asks for clarification when necessary. Documents accurately to reflect understanding of assigned tasks. Addresses difficult or conflict situations constructively.
  • Service Orientation: Demonstrates a commitment to service. Contributes to a positive patient care experience. Anticipates patient needs and takes proactive steps to meet them. Recognizes diverse cultural norms and seeks assistance in culturally sensitive situations.
  • Assessment/Observation: Obtains vital signs and collects data; reports values outside parameters. Reports observations and outcomes of assigned nursing care tasks.
  • Critical Thinking: Demonstrates problem solving, prioritization, and resource identification. Understands how Kaiser Permanente key systems affect services and quality of care.
  • Technology Skills: Demonstrates literacy in computerized information systems related to assignments and knowledge of clinical procedures and equipment as assigned.
  • Knowledge: Attends mandatory inservices related to patient care. Maintains awareness of organizational policies and current information in policy and procedure manuals and unit communications.
  • Legal & Ethical Responsibilities: Provides care within authorized CNA 2 Acute Care duties. Adheres to HIPAA and confidentiality policies and KP policies. Demonstrates ethical practices respecting cultural, social, and ethnic differences (e.g., CLAS standards).
  • Team Focus: Interacts effectively with the healthcare team, collaborates to support unit goals, and participates in unit-based activities and meetings.
  • Leadership & Change Management: Supports new ideas and change efforts within the team. Assists in orienting and mentoring new team members.
  • Performs Tasks & Procedures: Performs assigned tasks competently, including vital signs, monitoring devices, basic patient care activities, specimen collection, and routine clinical procedures within scope of knowledge and training.
  • Safety Practices: Maintains a safe patient environment, adheres to safety policies, and participates in safety training and emergency procedures.

  • Nursing Assistant Certificate - Level 1 (Oregon) OR Nursing Assistant Certificate - Level 2 (Oregon)
  • Basic Life Support within 1 month of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a CNA Nursing Assistant in Acute Care.
  • Computer keyboarding skills.
