Job Summary

Works as a member of the nursing team under the supervision of the Registered Nurse on assignments that are routine in nature and within authorized duties of the CNA Acute Care. Tasks performed have predetermined procedures and guidance and supervision is provided as needed. Position supports RN in patient care delivery as dictated by comfort and safety and in accordance with identified training and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Problem Solving: Work tasks are fully defined. Refers more difficult issues to RN.
  • Decision-Making: Uses judgment to perform tasks. Accepts accountability for own actions.
  • Compliance Accountability: Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and policies and procedures.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrates effective written/verbal communication. Documents and relays messages or instructions accurately. Reports patient information on a timely basis. Verifies understanding of information and asks for clarification when necessary. Documents accurately to reflect understanding of assigned tasks. Confronts difficult or conflict situations constructively.
  • Service Orientation: Demonstrates a commitment to service. Contributes to a positive patient care experience. Anticipates the customer’s desires and takes proactive steps to meet those needs. Recognizes the diversity and cultural norms of the individual. Seeks assistance when needed in culturally sensitive situations.
  • Assessment or Observation Skills: Obtains vital signs and collects data; reports values outside given parameters. Reports observations. Reports outcomes of assigned nursing care tasks.
  • Critical Thinking Skills: Demonstrates the ability to problem solve. Identifies resources and uses them when confronted with a problem. Prioritizes assigned tasks and work or seeks assistance appropriately. Demonstrates understanding of how Kaiser Permanente key systems affect services and quality of care.
  • Technology Skills: Demonstrates technological literacy in using computerized information systems related to assignments. Demonstrates technical knowledge of clinical procedures and use of special equipment as assigned.
  • Knowledge: Attends mandatory inservices related to patient care and others as appropriate. Displays clinical knowledge appropriate to education/training and assigned tasks. Assists in identifying own learning needs. Takes responsibility to keep informed of organizational policies and current information in policy and procedure manuals and unit communications.
  • Legal & Ethical Responsibilities: Provides care within the authorized duties for CNA 2 Acute Care consistent with state definitions. Adheres to HIPAA and confidentiality policies. Demonstrates knowledge of legal responsibilities, limitations and implications of actions. Adheres to KP policies and Principles of Responsibility and other regulatory requirements as applicable.
  • Team Focus (Teamwork): Interacts effectively with all members of the healthcare team. Demonstrates flexibility, collaborates with team members, and supports unit-based activities and staff meetings.
  • Leadership & Change Management: Identifies and supports new ideas. Helps orient and mentor new team members. Acts as a resource to other team members.
  • Performs Tasks & Procedures: Performs assigned tasks competently and demonstrates operational knowledge of procedures, therapies, tests and equipment within scope of training. Examples include vital signs, data gathering, specimen collection, wound care assistance, catheter management support, oxygen and respiratory assistance, ostomy care, and other routine CNA tasks as directed by the RN.
  • Safety Practices: Promotes a safe patient environment, reports hazards, and follows health and safety policies. Maintains a safe and hazard-free environment for patient, visitors, staff and self. Adheres to fire and life safety policies and procedures.
