Overview
Position: Security Specialist at Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
The role involves patrolling the DCPA complex, screening visitors and maintaining the safety and security of all DCPA property, individuals and patrons. The Security Specialist is expected to be onsite for evening performances and events, provide guidance while troubleshooting and resolving security issues, and maintain security equipment to ensure proper working conditions (cameras, points of entry, and control access). The assigned post protects facility assets while ensuring the successful production of events. The operational scope includes multiple sites (two office buildings; a multi-use live theater complex with four theater spaces; a warehouse; a ballroom/events center; and 42 residential condominium units).
Base pay range
$20.00/hr - $22.50/hr

Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Director of Safety & Security, the Security Specialist is responsible for patrolling the Denver Center for the Performing Arts complex, screening building visitors, observing and reporting incidents, maintaining the safety and security of all DCPA property, individuals and patrons. The Security Specialist is expected to be onsite support for evening performances and events. This position provides guidance while troubleshooting and resolving security issues. Maintains all security equipment to ensure proper working conditions, including cameras, points of entry, and control access. Maintains and operates the assigned post, protecting the facility assets while ensuring the successful production of events. The operational scope includes multiple sites: two office buildings; one multi-use live theater complex with four theater spaces; a warehouse; a ballroom/events center; and 42 residential condominium units.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Demonstrates personal commitment to the organization and provides continuous, quality work.
- Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organization and departmental safety programs.
- Patrols buildings, grounds, and reports incidents on campus to the Director of Safety & Security or the Team Leader.
- Assists in emergency preparedness and serves as a conduit to the Crisis Management Team and Emergency Responders in the event of an emergency.
- Answers all emergency calls, including medical emergencies, personnel safety, theft, and fire; contacts emergency agencies as needed; develops and maintains positive working relationships with executives, staff, patrons, local law enforcement and fire officials.
- Keeps records and uses a computer to complete and maintain paperwork related to public safety including incident, theft, injury and hazard reports.
- Operates the public address system in an emergency and assists the Director of Safety & Security or Team Leader in identifying high risk areas and initiating actions to reduce risk exposure.
- Provides safety escorts to various locations on campus.
- Oversees lost and found property and procedures.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Keeps up to date with developments in training methodology and security issues in public-serving and educational spaces.
- Responds to and handles non-emergency requests such as door openings and closings, personal safety, and security checks.
- Observes activity using CCTV to enforce DCPA rules and regulations.
- Assists any persons in the building or grounds needing directions or information.
- Follows the direction of the Director of Safety & Security.
Qualifications
- Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong group dynamics and interactive skills.
- Experience in security or related field is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to work closely with internal departments and external entities.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and work under pressure; capacity to handle sensitive information.
- Able to work any shift, weekends, and holidays.
- Working knowledge of common office computer systems, databases and spreadsheet utilities; working knowledge of electronics, PCs, networks, alarm devices, sensors and systems, door hardware, and video surveillance equipment.
- Will be required to obtain Denver Security Guard License as well as CPR/First Aid training and other assigned safety and security-related training.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based multicultural environment.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
Working Conditions
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as a computer, phone, photocopier and filing cabinets. The job is ambulatory within all facilities and may require working in office settings, public spaces and construction zones. May be on-call after regular business hours in emergencies. Must be able to work in adverse weather.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, and to communicate over the phone, email and in person during scheduled shifts. The employee frequently moves around the facilities and work environment, uses hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. May be required to stand or sit for long periods. Ability to respond to incidents in various locations in a timely manner. May lift, move, and hold items up to 25 pounds.
Compensation
Compensation: $20.00 - $22.50 hourly
